Dear fellow wax-mates,
I want to start a new article interviewing founders of our most promising wax-projects right now.
Part1 is an interview with SammySnake, have fun reading it.
1. Hey Sammy, thanks for taking the time for the interview.
How did the idea for Nova Rally develop inside yourself?
Sammy:
There are a few key things, I have had the idea of a game "system" since I discovered NFT's and was waiting for the right opportunity, but then Zyca came to me and showed me 3d Models of cars that he made and I thought that my system could actually work very well for a racing game.
I was looking for a game on WAX with charm and I wanted a game to make use of mutable attributes and thought these could be some of the differentiating factors compared to other collections.
2. Now that some time has passed, you surely learned a lot already.
Like you missed some deadlines in the past for the project.
What are the biggest lessons you learned so far during this project?
Sammy:
Trying to rush things never helps, I thought I could capitalize on the successful reception of the sale by getting things moving quicker but certain technical factors delayed things. If I had stuck to the website dates from initial Whitepaper and said nothing more there wouldn't be as much disappointment because there wouldn't be as much expectation.
A lot of the lessons I learned though were confirmations that my beliefs as a consumer myself were correct. Market Fee's received positive reception, people enjoy my open and honest style that I got frustrated at other projects for being difficult to communicate with.
3. What was the thing that annoyed you the most so far during this project?
Sammy:
Some toxicity certainly caught me off guard as soon as prices stopped going up exponentially.
I think people still have a bit of skepticism regarding me but that drives me everyday to succeed.
4. As a gamer and part of the wax community for a long time,
do you see things differently as a founder?
Sammy:
You get an appreciation for how difficult it is theoretically to balance a play to earn game. You make something too scarce and it's too expensive for the mass players we are after, you make it too abundant and the value of the collection suffers.
The main thing is you quickly realise that project owners are real people and that they make mistakes, also now when I review projects I can see some areas where I think they haven't thought about the future infrastructure enough.
5. Nova Rally Season1 is right around the corner.
Are you nervous about the start and are you going to race yourself?
Sammy:
I'm incredibly excited, I want players to experience the idea. Of course, I will race, I want to beat my friends on the track! I won't compete too often as I know how the race system functions but it's important I experience the game as a player, so I can think of improvements to the player experience.
6. Prices have dropped a lot since the first hype.
What would be a better deal, buying a sketch for 2k wax, or 100 common drivers for 9 wax each?
Sammy:
Sketch is a solid long term play, 100 common drivers allows you to experience the fun and chaos of the Death Rally though, I would honestly just recommend a balanced approach, you want rarer characters that you can focus your resources on and getting promoted.
7. With Death Rally, ranking up to other leagues and no more pack sales for season1,
Do you expect the value of snakeoil to go up during the season?
Sammy:
I don't like to speculate regarding the value of the token, the snakoil is always meant to be the accessible "cheap" token allowing new players to enjoy the game. I think the higher tier tokens have more potential to rise.
8. How long will be the cool down period for a broken car after the Death Rally?
Sammy:
This figure will be revealed in the Whitepaper 2.0 but it could be balanced depending on how the game is going. It's not going to be cheap.
9. You said Boost-tokens will only be a small nudge, can you explain that?
Sammy:
I don't like to give much information to players, but if your drivers don't perform in a race, your boost won't dig you out of that whole, but if your car is performing well then it allows you to capitalize more.
10. SnakeGas, Snakepower and Snakevenom are used in higher leagues.
They are fixed pools, so the people who upgrade the first, get a bigger share of the pool.
So ranking up quickly is a good deal, correct?
Sammy:
Yes but it is balanced so someone who would be the first person promoted, couldn't gain Millions every hour.
11. To move up in a league, you need to move 3 characters of the same type.
Do I need to burn 3 cars of the same type as well to move up in a league?
Sammy:
Yes.
12.The league system makes it interesting, but if it's too time exhausting to make 15 races a day, interest could go down.
Sammy:
Well I plan to have bulk entering of races, so you can enter 15 races at once.
13. In my opinion your tokenomics system is the smartest I have seen so far inside the wax-blockchain. Are you proud so far ?
Sammy:
I honestly have to give credit to one of my best friends on WAX Mirko (a.k.a ShrimpBaguette) for this, he is a strong mathematical mind, and he has a flair for great ideas. I'm very proud of everything we came up with and I think that the overall experience for the user for the season is very well-structured.
14. And did you take a lot of feedback from the community for it?
Sammy:
We took feedback in the early stages on certain rewards and prices, but overall we find having a program that forecasts what happens is more effective because then you can take suggestions and actually prove why they are a good or bad idea.
15 Nova Rally got hyped a lot in the beginning, how did you react to that? Was it more pressure/stress or positive energy?
Sammy:
It blew away my expectations for sure, I knew I had a community behind me, so we would sell decently but I'm famous for underestimating and the demand was unbelievable and it was one the most beautiful moments seeing people open their packs, I remember breaking down when I saw people sharing how happy they were to get a Classic Car in their pack.
It is an incredible amount of pressure but it has been a blessing because we have really tightened up a lot of areas in the design because of the exposure and suggestions we have received.
16. Last question: What is the thing on Nova Rally you are looking most forward too?
Sammy:
I look forward to the stories that are made from the strange things that happen, any character winning the Death Rally twice will go down in history. I just look forward to having something people can login and are excited to play everyday!
So, thats it.
