The Eiffel Tower, now a global symbol of Paris, faced intense opposition during its construction.

In 1887, a group of prominent French artists and intellectuals criticized the tower, describing it as a "useless and monstrous" structure that would ruin the city's aesthetic. Their disdain was partly rooted in cultural and professional rivalry, as they preferred a more traditional design.
