Smith's book explored the nature and causes of a nation's prosperity, highlighting the importance of the division of labor. He discussed various topics, including wage differentials and the detrimental effects of mercantilism. While Smith believed in free markets, he recognized the role of government in enforcing contracts, providing public works, and granting patents and copyrights.
