Marina di Grosseto is a "frazione" of the "comune" of Grosseto in the Province of Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy.
An important seaside resort of the Maremma Grossetana, it is known for its hilly hinterland rich in Mediterranean scrub and for the wide beaches overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a vast pine forest, known as Pineta del Tombolo, which extends from Punta Ala to the Uccellina Mountains. The center of the village develops at the mouth of the emissary San Rocco, on the border with the Maremma Natural Park, not far from Bocca d'Ombrone, the mouth of the Ombrone river.
The town is located around the ancient nucleus of San Rocco, a fishing village, and the first news of a residential settlement dates back to 1793 when the Salt Tower commissioned by Ferdinand III of Tuscany was finished. At that time the seaside village of San Rocco was one of the four guard posts established to guard the coast after the plague epidemic that had struck the French city of Marseille.
The "fashion" of sea baths on the Grosseto coast took place at the end of the nineteenth century when young people used to go from the city to the marshy beaches and then almost uninhabited to escape the city heat. Marina di Grosseto has undergone a strong urbanization since the beginning of the twentieth century and even more so after the reclamation work that affected the entire Maremma area in the thirties.
Principina a Mare is a frazione in the Province of Grosseto in the Italian region Tuscany, located about southeast of Florence and about southeast of Tuscany.
The village is included in the district n.6 Marina of the municipality of Grosseto.
In the period from May to June, this area is subject to swarms of tiny insects of the genus Leptoconops called locally seraphic, which sting humans and animals and are capable of triggering violent allergic reactions.
Among the monuments is worth mentioning the tower of the Trap. Not far away, there is also the chapel of Santa Maria alla Trappola, while the chapel of the Strillaie rises outside the marshy area, inside a farm located near the road of the Trap, near the intersection for Principina a Mare.
In the hamlet is the modern church of Santa Teresa di Lisieux, belonging to the parish of Marina di Grosseto.
