Vinh Ha Long, Quang Ninh, Vietnam

A junk cruising between the jagged rocky formation called karsts. The legends say that a dragon stomped the area causing the mountains to crumble or that he wagged his tail and created the valleys which then filled with water. The folklore also says that a mythical dragon-like marine creature named the Tarasque hides in the water of the bay.

The area of about 1500 km2 has about 3000 of these karsts and the inhabitants of the region live mostly from fishing and trading. Some villages are also floating tied to some of these karsts. Although there is now a lot of tourists visiting the area which is changing the local economy.
