Vietnamese markets

I couldn't sleep one night, so at 4:00am I went to the local markets to take some photos. When tourists see these markets they think I'm crazy for shopping here, but when you see this - I think you're crazy not to.

The seafood (and all the produce) is collected straight from the fishing boats or the farm in #vietnam and shipped straight to the local markets, still alive. They are sold that morning (mainly) and eaten (generally) the same day - yet we in the west freeze our seafood on board ship, sell it at the markets and who knows when it is sold and consumed.

At 4:30am, the customers are starting to filter in. In fact, they've been arriving since I got there at 4:00am. Many people here in #saigon shop every day. Some / many don't have refrigerators, so they have to shop every day for fresh meat, seafood, vegetables & fruit.

Sounds hard but for many of these people, this is also a social outing. I saw many customers chatting with the vendors while I was snapping away and there was a lot of laughing and friendly banter running around the market.
