In normal times, parks are a very popular place for locals and tourists alike. Nearly every city in Vietnam takes great pride in their parks.
Tao Đàn Park not far from the city centre is one of the most popular in Saigon (the locals often refer to the city centre as Sài gòn, the old name for Ho Chi minh city).
Tao Đàn Park is 10 hectares (nearly 25 acres) of prime city real estate. It has grassy areas, statues, monuments, bridges, paved walkways, flowers, a children's playground and even a Buddhist temple.
It's a popular place for groups to congregate (obviously not at the moment!) and perform various activities. Groups like the Vietnamese equivalent of Boy Scouts can often be seen playing organised games, people dancing and playing music.
