While followers do allow us a measure of certainty regarding views and tips, I think highly effective and engaging authors should be rewarded for creating and sharing content that people actually want, as evidenced by that user following them.  Because gaining a follower happens significantly less often than receiving a tip, I believe that any reward for gaining a follower should be greater than a normal tip.  Ideally, I think twice the total amount paid in a single tip is fair, but that amount is dependent on the total resources available in the reward pool, upon which I can't fairly speculate.  If such a reward were added, it would be nice if authors were paid retroactively for the followers they already have.
