The HIVE blockchain is a vast, versatile blockchain ecosystem with a bevy of dApps, markets and exchanges, social media and blogging sites, and gaming uses. What initially drew me to HIVE was when I started playing the Splinterlands NFT trading card game (https://splinterlands.com?ref=geoduckamayne), but when I started to dig into the underlying technology propping it up, I quickly found a plethora of other interesting communities and sometimes fun earning opportunities; made all the more enticing due to the insanely low trading fees/costs it provides. 

    This post is intended to offer a brief and simple guide on how to get started for free on HIVE using the HiveOnBoard registration provider. There are several other ways to do sign up, but I find HiveOnBoard to be more than simple and effective enough :)

     1.) Visit: https://hiveonboard.com?ref=geoduckamayne  and enter your preferred username in the box, read/agree to the terms of service, and click continue...

     2.) Backup your account/keys - this is EXTREMELY important, as you will be unable to recover your account should you need to and have lost your keys. Print them out, copy them down, or otherwise save and store them in a safe place!

     3.) Where you go from here is entirely up to you - I recommend downloading the Hive Keychain browser extension and/or mobile app to view and interact with your account directly; you will also want to acquire and stake some HIVE (the chains native token) so you have Hive Power (HP) / resource credits available to make transactions on the HIVE blockchain.

     There are exchange/trading services at https://www.tribaldex and https://www.hive-engine.com , NFT games such as the massively popular Splinterlands, Rising Star, and dCROPS (links below), communities/social media sites such as Peakd and Ecency, and much much more!
