Bringing NFTs to Life - Game of Stonks Devlog

A game about decorating an office apartment with NFTs. And now there's some more stuff to do in the office.

You can list your NFTs from an 0x address or WAX and print out the items . Scale them, and pin them on a wall, or anywhere outside.

The computer in the office has some quests and a mining simulator to play with. The in-game currency doesn't buy anything yet, the plan is to have an in-game store to unlock some special items, or to buy one of the game NFTs.

Special NFTs (for testers) :

Browse on AtomicMarket.

I made some items on WAX blockchain with special functionality in the game. Buying the NFTs helps support the game development (and you can sell them when you're done with the game :) Look for mint number 1s starting at 42 WAX! The regular price for the items is between 4-10 wax.

The first experiment was Deltron Miner. It's 200% faster than the starter computer and looks a bit cooler.

Some crypto coffee for the desk adds an extra 5% productivity (mining speed). And is much better than the old coffee.

Another experiment is the Wand of Life. An item that can bring an NFT to life in the office. I'm not happy with how the particles look in the NFT GIF, but at least they look cool in the game.

If you have a character NFT (pixel monster) or something (with a transparent background works best), you can hit it with the wand and it will move around in the office, billboarding style - always facing the camera. It's hilarious with a Crypto Finney btw..

The latest experiment I'm working on is Lara Conner, or Blockchain Lara. Not even sure what I'll name her. When it's ready you can name her/it what you want.

"she appeared in the office one day... " See her story in the promo video. (from Lara Promo nft.)

How to get some items for free: I'm making a bundle drop for dedicated testers. The first 50 subscribers to the new email list on the website will get 4 free NFTs, and I will start sending them out soon. Join the telegram group (optional) to stay in touch and get updates about the latest drops. I wont be sending a lot of emails or any spam. You'll get an email if there's a big change to the game, or something to get for free.

Hold onto one of the Lara Promo items in your WAX wallet to get whitelisted for special Lara NFT drops. You will get one with the bundle I mentioned above. She is almost ready for the game. There might be other crypto companions for the game in the future as well.

Some future NFTs will be: Lara itself, moves to install (i.e Yoga Moves, Exercise Moves, Dance Moves), maybe some different skins.

If you make 2D or 3D characters and want to sell them as NFTs for the game, maybe we can work together. Lara's moves can be added to any rigged character that works with the Unity mechanim standard. And the Wand of Life can work with any printed 2D item.

I don't think NFTs are dead yet. I think they go well with indie games and cloud content delivery. To fund the development of a game, and to give players a way to get something back when they're done with the game (by selling the items). more power to the player, like Gamestop says.

I want to keep the game under 50 mb, and cloudinary has been a useful tool for some things, like converting media on the fly for the in-game video player. It has a way to fetch and transform media with just one line of code.  Here's a function in the game: Press 2 to try 'remove background' on an image you're holding. press 2 again to undo. It works on some items with a single background color. It won't change the actual NFT, just how it looks in game.

Hope you'll check out the game. There are a lot of metaverse/blockchain games, and I'm still learning most of this game-dev thing as I go along. Read my other devlogs for more about the progress. I wanted to make a 'free blockchain space where you can invite someone to see your collection.', something like that. Since I could never buy any land in those games, and I thought the prices were something silly. But this game is becoming something else, I guess. So far there is no multiplayer, but you can make a link to show off your room. You can place items outside, scale them really big, change the horizon if you want. If you find the right images for that, that'd be pretty cool. And that reminds me, the pets made with the wand are only set to navigate inside the office. Not sure why. To-do: I should give them the ability to walk around outside if they were placed there.
