Hey guys!
Welcome to this Challenge, where in this opportunity we’re gonna be seeing how it is a battle with the Lost Magic rule.

Lost Magic
The Lost Magic rule is pretty simple… you’re not allowed to use Monsters with a Magic attack. Now, because of this rule we know that the only attacks allowed are the physical ones, Melee and Ranged, so a great way to defend yourself is using tanks, which can either fly or who have the Shield effect.
You can also use a card with the Demoralize or Headwinds effect, to debuff your opponents attack and protect yourself even more. And, of course, in the counter-attacking department you can use Thorns or Return Fire.
Anyways, there are plenty of different cards which can be used in this Lost Magic situation, but we could be here forever analyzing different approaches… the use of Backfire, the use of Retaliate, the use of Armor, the use of Repair, the use of Piercing and Shatter as counter-measures for those cases… but you can use only six Monsters tops, so you gotta chose.
Battle
Lineup & Strategy

The following battle happened in a Bronze league tournament; on top of the Lost Magic rule there where the Odd Ones Out rule, which means that only Monsters with odd Mana values can be used, and the Target Practice rule, which means that all Ranged Monsters have the Sniper ability.
I should also mention that the tournament only allowed cards from the Chaos Legion Collection, which on top of the Odd Ones Out and the Lost Magic rules, limited our options quite a lot. On the other hand, we had a Mana cap of 57 and only the Life Splinter couldn’t be used.

-
Speed is always important in my lineups, and especially in one that forbids Magic, so I picked the Helios Matriarch as my Summoner. Besides, she also gives me the chance to use a Gladius card, which sometimes change the results of certain battles on their own.
-
As my tank I picked the Gargoya Devil, which is pretty weak, but my logic was: “He is only going to be attacked by the enemy tank, plus it can fly, and with that extra point of Speed granted by the Matriarch, he can dodge some attacks before going down…” It didn’t work out, he died without dodging a single attack.
-
In the second position I put the Venari Marksrat. No big secret; he was going to be attacked and his Martyr effect was going to strengthen the adjacent allies. Unfortunately, the Gargoya Devil died even before that…
-
In the third position, Fina Voxom. I acquired her pretty recently, so I didn’t have the chance to use her that much, but she has great stats for a five Mana card, I mean, it’s a Legendary. Besides, her Bloodlust effect, plus the two Martyrs next to her make her really dangerous to any lineup.
-
Fourth position, another Martyr, but this one has a strong attack for being a Common level three, but with a low Speed. Anyways, his goal is to die to “feed” his allies.
-
In the fifth position, the Lava Launcher. It’s a good attacker, decent Speed, good attack, and plenty of hit points before going down.
-
At last, the Disintegrator. I never count on this Monster’s offensive qualities, since it’s slow and weak, but it has decent HP, Armor and the Demoralize effect, which in this ruleset proves quite useful.

Battle Analysis
Clearly, my lineup is much weaker than my opponents; I think that he had a much more clear approach, since he didn’t abuse the Martyr effect, like I did, and he make sure to use strong attacking Ranged Monsters and protect them with Armor, which at the same time, was Repaired.
Also, not abusing the Martyr effect, allowed him to position an extra attacking Monster, which helped him hold the line for longer, while mine went down pretty fast as soon as the Gargoya fell. Besides my Disintegrator was also idle in the back. I put to much pressure on the Gargoya, the Launcher and especially Fina Voxom.
Another reason, but this is my problem, not an strategy issue, is that the ruleset was quite restrictive; only Chaos set, Odd Ones Out, no Magic and, unfortunately for me, I don’t count with that many variety of Monsters for such an specific ruleset. For example, I could’ve use the Forgotten One, Runic Skyclaw and Ash Mirage for this battle, but I don’t own them, so maybe it’s time for me to make some purchases.
