DC League of Super-pets

So, it is the school holidays... and of course, it is time to see what might be possible to watch all together as a family. A little bit tricky when you have one kid that is 10 and another at 5... but thankfully, the older one still loves her cartoons and all of that... and hasn't truly hit the pre-teen sorts of tastes. Well, not with the movies at least... fashion, and that sort of thing is starting to become a thing!

Anyway, the one that we all agreed upon was the DC League of Super-pets. It had a sort of okay trailer, but these days... well, the DC franchise is SOOOOOOO far behind the Marvel Universe. It is quite noticeably lagging a long way back, to the point where all its characters feel like cheap knock-offs of the Marvel equivalents. I've watched a few of the DC series... and the only one that I've enjoyed has been the Netflix Legends of Tomorrow.... well, I also enjoy the LEGO ones as well! But the rest... hmmm...

So, fresh out of the cinema... how do I feel about the DC Superpets?

Well... it was just passably okay. It was quite a touch cringy at spots, there were some slightly funny Marvel jabs... but the whole thing really just didn't hit it with me. Misfit pets with powers, Superman's annoying righteous dog who has to deal with being a "normal" dog... and a pretty hackneyed friendship plotline. I found it all really just too ham-fisted.... and it just wasn't that funny either on the adult or the kid level.

I'm afraid that this one was a bit of a flop for me... the only star of the show was the pet villain! Well, that made it all worthwhile... a great stand out, crazily funny lines, and kick arse attitude!... this was the only thing that saved the entire thing from being walked out on.

On the plus side, I did see trailers for two other movies that I really am quite keen on seeing.... Paws of Fury (an animated one, that looks lots better than Superpets...)... and See How They Run... I'm not sure if the second one is for kids, or if it is, it might just be for the older girl!
