What's Actually Going On With the Libertarian Party's "Civil War"?

The Libertarian Party in the US has been going through some upheaval lately, with newer energized members from the Mises Caucus etc. growing in importance with an uncomprimising messaging strategy, while other elements of the party are freaking out about it. Sure, I could do some research and go into nuances of what series of events caused this latest uproar, but I think it goes much deeper than that. There's been a segment of the movement in general that has focused far too much on being inoffensive for far too long.
