In case you haven't heard, a major uprising is occurring in France as millions protest government pension reforms, raising the retirement age from 62 to 64. What really angered the French is that President Macron unilaterally pushed for these reforms. This isn't going away anytime soon. France, along with just about every country on the planet, is facing a demographic cliff as there are now more retirees collecting pensions than there are young workers to replace them and keep the system afloat. The French are so pissed off that they've stormed and taken over the BlackRock headquarters, BlackRock being the largest fund manager in the world with over $10 trillion in assets (on paper anyways).
A little birdie told me that France is months away from a financial collapse because they've essentially run out of money and have no choice but to raise the retirement age limit. The same birdie told me we're all facing the same situation. I suppose the huge national debts incurred by governments around the world is now finally coming home to roost.
All the while as France burns, Macron jetted off to Beijing with a one on one with Chairman for life Xi Xinping to request Beijing's help in resolving the Ukraine War. How silly is that? Macron is more concerned with a war that has nothing to do with France while protesters by the millions march and fill the streets, forcing the country to come to a standstill.
Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne met with Union leaders and after just one hour so so, the meeting ended with no resolve. A Bloomberg survey showed that the majority of French citizens do not want pension reform.
Pensions are promises to pay, so long as there is money there to pay out. If there isn't any money, that promise will be broken. Before the 1930s, government pensions were literally unheard of, unless you were a veteran soldier or elected official. If you went into old age without any savings, you were likely left destitute unless a family member took you in. In fact, large families were quite common as it was a heck of a lot cheaper to live together under the same roof, grandparents, their kids and their kids. These days, the family unit is broken (by design?). So many people are living alone, trying to make ends meet in the quest for independence. Pursuing the quest for independence in these times we are now facing could speed up or even guarantee your financial demise so it's better to share the costs with someone you know and trust.
Are retirement pensions to becoming a thing of the past? At the very least, pension reform is coming or some kind of revaluation which means less purchasing power for your pension, whether they be in dollars, pounds or yen. The French are the first to protest pension reform but I'm afraid there will be more protests around the world as things devolve further.
One way to protect your assets for the long term is by holding silver (and gold). Silver is God's money, plain and simple. The old saying is that silver is 'the poor man's gold'. I have a new saying, that silver is 'the smart man's money'. When Venezuela sank into hyperinflation, one single ounce of silver provided enough food for a month! For Venezuelans that did not possess silver, they resorted to breaking into zoos and slaughtering the animals within to provide food in their bellies. They resorted to hijacking delivery trucks and stealing its contents. They went onto private farms to steal livestock and vegetables.
It doesn't have to be this way. Governments aren't going to help us. They are essentially broke anyways. It's up to us to provide for ourselves and our families. In other words, take back control of our lives. Silver is the first step!
To the French I say, 'Prend Guarde' which in English translates to 'take care'.
