I only recently found Uptrennd. It seems like it has potential, but there was one glaring flaw. Right now the platform is crypto-only. It's not that, as a crypto-based platform the general topic of discussion is crypto. The content limitation is being enforced. This decision is a mistake and could threaten Uptrennd's future. There are already other platforms that are crypto based that are in many ways alternatives to Uptrennd. There's Steemit and publish0x, as examples. I personally like publish0x and post most of my content there.
Long Term Survival
If Uptrennd is to survive, it will have to do something that other crypto-based platforms do not. Focusing on crypto isn't the answer. Indeed, just because the platforms are crypto-based means that crypto enthusiasts are writing a lot of articles on the topic article. The platforms are being saturated with crypto related articles. However, these other platforms do not limit the content to crypto only articles and so there are people who are working on building a base on these platforms to focus on other types of content. These early adopters will spearhead crypto-based blogging platforms into the mainstream. These early adopters have a lot of room to grow and take advantage of the growth of these platforms, so that by the time the platforms become large and dominant they will have a significant following to promote their type of content.
The same thing cannot be said about Uptrennd. All of the early adopters of Uptrennd are authors that focus on crypto. These are the authors whose work will continue to be seen as the platform grows, which means that they will crowd out later adopters who are able to write about other topics. So Uptrennd's decision is shooting itself in the foot. It is threatening the long term growth and stability of the platform.
Indeed, in the long term, people will talk less and less about crypto and blockchain technology, as it becomes part of our daily lives. The amount of discussion about these topics is a product of the still immature nature of these technologies. Once matured, all of the popular authors that talk about crypto will have to find something else to discuss or move on. While a non-crypto author shouldn't be expected to see a ton of activity on their articles, they should not be discouraged, let alone prohibited from including such content. But it's up to the Uptrennd community and developers to decide: do they want to focus on crypto only for now, or do they want to help ensure their survival? Time will tell.
