Uptrennd is a blockchain-based social media platform that was launched a little more than a year ago, and it really has made some big strides since then. Better speeds, less spammy nonsense and an overall cleanliness and professionalism that we have come to expect from these applications. It is doing very well, in my opinion.

The basic premise is to build a place where we take back control of social media! We are rewarded in the proprietary Uptrennd token, 1UP, for the content we write and our engagement with other members. Our reward levels depend on how people receive us and our rank in the community (higher levels get bigger rewards). And we can use these rewards to level up or cash out as 1UP tokens.
It works beautifully, and I've come to enjoy my time there.
Then Came "The Halvening"!
That's right... it is a crypto economy, so they have incorporated occasional reward halving mechanisms to sustain the token supply over time. The first one-- which has been dubbed "the Halvening"-- just happened shortly after the Bitcoin halving event not long ago, and many Uptrenndians are not happy with the effect on their own wallet.
It's an interesting case study, as I'm not sure that a halving event has affected a crypto community so directly on a micro level like this... we don't generally hear from the BTC miners about their diminishing block rewards every four years and it doesn't have an immediate impact on the average investor or enthusiast.
So I'm watching things unfold with rapt attention.

The Bright Side
The founder of Uptrennd, Jeff Kirdeikis, and his team of moderators (which we call "Guardians") are trying to present a positive case for the Halvening. They want everyone to understand the reasons for doing it and the long-term benefits of sustaining the 1UP economy. It's true too... this halving happened at around the 100,000,000 circulated token mark-- and there is a limited total supply of one billion 1UP tokens-- so the flow of new tokens needs to be slowed down.
Halvings are also pretty good for the currency's price, generally speaking. Each of Bitcoin's halvings have reaped huge gains in the following year, so I usually expect the same kind of results from other similar events. It would make perfect sense for 1UP too, as it is growing faster now than it likely ever will. There should be a few good pumps on the horizon.
The Dark Side
There will always be naysayers and complainers... there's no way around it. But there is admittedly a noticeable drop in the rewards on the platform, and hence a barrier to our progression within the community. That's where most of the noise is coming from right now-- people who are upset about their shrinking rewards-- and I can't really argue with their premise.
But there really isn't much else on which to throw shade...

Besides, there are a few other easy ways to boost your earnings:
- 2UP Tuesday is just what it sounds like... double the rewards for all your upvotes! This was always a huge day for Uptrenndians, but it's now more important than ever. So don't miss a single Tuesday if you can help it.
- They have daily page load and activity bonuses that are worth grabbing every day. Just log in and spend some time reading content and engaging, and you'll earn the bonuses in no time. They start at one point each, but do it for ten consecutive days and you'll get 10 points for each bonus every day... indefinitely! This is an important boost that I always make sure I get.
- High-quality content always wins! You'll always do better if your writing is top-notch and you talk about topics people enjoy. The Guardians (moderators) also have the ability to give more 1UPs for their upvotes, so impressing them can really go a long way. Write excellent posts and engage with commenters. Be present.
That's the Story So Far
And I'm proud to say I've been a part of it for a few months now... it's well worth checking out, as I truly believe it will play a vital role in the future of social media. The status quo can't last forever, and the people are already starting to confirm this by transitioning over to Uptrennd in droves!
Is "the Halvening" presenting new and interesting challenges for the community? Yes, it definitely is... but I still think it's the right move, and I'm excited to see where the wind takes us.
