Episode 7 - Entering the Cosmos Gravity DEX Competition

By flarnrules | Talkin Bout Crypto | 23 Apr 2021

Purpose

I am going to try and outline the steps necessary to enter the Cosmos Gravity DEX Competition. The competition registration ends on April 30, 2021, so I'm trying to register today.

What is the Cosmos Gravity DEX Competition?

The Cosmos Gravity DEX Competition is a Test Net competition that will run from May 4 through May 11, 2021. The competition winners will be announced on May 18, 2021. Registration for the competition ends on April 30, 2021. Participants will compete for the top "score" which will be based on deposit, withdrawal, and swap activity across eligible pools.

The top 33.33% of all competitor scores will win rewards from a pool of $200,000 worth of various coins. The main price is 5,000 ATOM tokens, worth approximately worth roughly $95k as of the time I'm writing this (~$19.00 per ATOM x 5,000 ATOM).

How to Sign Up for The Cosmos Gravity DEX Competition?

There are several steps necessary to sign up. I will do my best to explain each step and process that I followed to sign up:

1. First, you need to navigate to the competition sign up page:

2. Next, you will need to set up a Keplr Wallet, if you have not done so already.

  • Navigate to https://keplr.app/
  • Follow the prompts starting with the big blue "Get Started" icon
  • Once you have downloaded the Keplr browser extension, and set up an account, you should be able to add the Keplr icon as a browser extension.
  • I'm using the Brave browser, and it looks like this, with my other extensions:

keplrFlarncoin is pointing to the Keplr Wallet Icon

3. Once you have the Keplr Wallet installed as a browser extension, you will need to find your main cosmos address.

  • Your main cosmos address is at the top of the wallet extension and starts with "cosmos" followed by a bunch of letters and numbers.
  • It is located here:

4. Next, and here is the tricky part, you will need to set up another address, a secondary address for your wallet:

  • I had no idea how to do this, and poked around on the browser extension, and the main Keplr wallet page for a while before I figured this out.
  • You need to navigate in your Keplr wallet to the little person icon at the top right hand corner and select "+ Add Account"
  • Then you just follow the prompts and create a new account. It's as simple as that!
  • I named my Secondary account "Flarn's Secondary Account for DEX Competition" so it looks like the account names can be pretty long and don't have a ton of restrictions regarding use of characters... I was expecting to get a rejection with the apostrphe.
  • See the image below for what that looks like:

He created it by clicking the + Add Account and creating a brand new account.

5. After step 4, you should have all of the accounts and information you need to actually enter the competition! The next step is to fill out all of the fields in the Airtable:

  • As mentioned above, in Step 1, you will need to navigate to this URL: https://airtable.com/shrnBmHrFYOJaCgNm
  • You will need to fill in the following information:
    • Your real name
    • Your e-mail address
    • Your twitter handle
    • Confirm you are 18
    • Your Cosmos MAIN address (Step 3 above)
    • Your Cosmos SECONDARY address (Step 4 above).
    • Agree to terms.
    • Sign up to receive Gravity DEX news and Cosmos updates.

6. Before you submit, you need to confirm that you are registering by making a twee. You need to tweet specific information and then copy a link to the tweet and paste it in the Airtable box.

  • You need to tweet the following hastags, accounts, and links

7. Hit Submit

My Thoughts on the Competition

This is my first time attempting to participate in a Crypto competition such as this. My goal by participating is to learn a lot more about Cosmos, and the Gravity DEX, as well as to learn a lot more about participating in a crypto project ecosystem. Since I am currently in the process of learning how to create my own blockchains, I do believe that this will be an important building block on my knowledge tree.

I'm also curious to learn how my activities compare against others in this competition. I currently see myself as a newcomer to the crypto-space (even though I did buy TRX at it's peak back in January 2018). My learning has just begun, and I see this as the next stage in my journey. I hope to at a minimum track my progress with at least 1 progress update, and a final post mortem once the competition is over. Hopefully I hold myself to this standard!

Wish me luck, and consider joining the competition. If you joined or have any thoughts, please leave your thoughts in the comments!

Cheers,

Flarn
