Splinterlands - Weekly Battle Challenge, Scavo Firebolt

By Silver Crypto | Tales of the Crypt0 | 23 May 2022

Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - This week is the under-rated but quite useful Scavo Firebolt.

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

This weeks card to shine is the Scavo Firebolt.

On the face of it - no abilities so whey would you use it.  Well it's not a speed one card and it has two ranged attack and four life making it a solid backline mini-tank that can do a bit of damage and soak up a few shots. So lets see how it goes in a battle.

The Battle

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_8a92cd744d4dadaf474109ccd778b594&ref=silver-edge

The rules for this battle were:

  • 19 mana cap - A lowish cap meaning not many big cards can be used

  • Target Practice - Ranged and Magic have the snipe ability

  • Fire, Life, Death and Dragon splinters only

Lower cap battles can be tricky but I decided to run with a Dragon Fire Combo.

And so my lineup was as follows:

Quix (4) - for the slow and to reduced any ranged attack on the other side;

Djinn Chwala (8) - for the thorns and the strong tanking (the main reason to use dragon in this match);

Serpentine Spy (3) - for the fast opportunity attack;

Scavo Firebolt (4) - to soak up attacks from the other side and protect the spy.  If the opposition has no opportunity attackers the spy should last a while due to the target practice ruleset.,

My team in short would rely on the Djinn Chwala and thorns to hurt any melee attackers, the Spy to do damage and take out some of the enemy why the Scavo Firebolt soaked up damage to give the spy time to attack.

My opposition went with a Dragon deck to but used Death instead.

Drake of Arnak (4) - for the bonus armor;

Cursed Windreku (6) - for the thorns of course;

Cursed Slimeball (1) - A one mana filler;

Undead Badger (2) - for the sneak attack;

Silent Sha-vi (5) -  another solid sneak attack;

Carrion Shade (1) - another one mana filler

This team used the Drake for some survivability, similar to my team a thorns frontline tank but then sneak attackers as the main weapon.

And so lets see how it plays out:

Turn One - My team all goes first thanks to Quix and thus damage the Windreku and the Slimeball.  The Scavo Firebolt tanks for the team and survives (barely) round one allowing the spy to survive to turn two.

Turn Two - starts as follows:

My team again goes first killing off the slimeball and the Windreku. The Death team attacks back taking out the Scavo firebolt up front exposing the Spy to sneak damage - but we should note the Badger as the turn ends is in front so can only attack the Chwala but has only one life.  As turn Three starts I expect the spy to kill the Badger putting the Death Sha-vi in front only able to attack Chwala and thus the match being all but over with the Spy, Chwala and Thorns eating through the Sha-Vi and the Carrion Shade.

Turn Three starts as follows:

As expected Spy goes first killing the Badger, the Sha-Vi is now in front and cant hit the Spy. The Sha-vi loses its armor to thorns and the turn ends as the Shade can't attack till it gets to first slot.

Turns Four and Five - the Spy hits the Shade and the Djinn hits the Sha Vi, the Sha Vi kills itself on thorns and the Shade does the same, game over!

And so to sum up:

  • The Scavo Firebolt has a decent amount of life and attack for only four mana.

  • Thorns are powerful!

  • Sneak attackers are great but relying on them can be dangerous if they can't take out the backline before they hit the front.
