Splinterlands - Weekly Battle Challenge, Animated Corpse

Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - Another week, Another Challenge so here's my entry....

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

This weeks challenge is with the Zombie (or Animated Corpse).  A started card I do not use often but from time to time can be handy.

A fairly low cost card with a nice six health the animated corpse is usually overshadowed by its more capable death ally, the Haunted Spirit.  The haunted Spirit, for one more mana has more health and the self heal ability at level one.

That being said from time to time having a two melee card with six life for four mana can be handy as seen in this battle.

The Battle

The rules for this battle were:

 - 17 mana cap

 - Little League - Four or less mana cost only

 - Explosive Weaponry - All monsters have the blast ability

 - Fire, Water or Death only.

From a scouting perspective my opponent really liked the Alric meta so I planned an attack that might work against it - an Owster Reflect deck!  This was mainly for the reflect but also for the chance to do the challenge!

And so my lineup was as follows:

Owster (3) - for the reflect - in a low mana battle if a lineup is magic heavy it is likely to have a lot of one health cards which will find Owster a nasty surprise!;

Animated Corpse (4) - I'd use Haunted Spirit but its a little league game so here the Animated Corpse shines as a great tank for the cost!  The two melee attack is nice too;

Twisted Jester (4) - in second slot for fast sniper ranged attack and with four life should survive a couple of turns.  Snipe is great as it's likely to hit mid deck and get two bonus blast attacks with this ruleset!;

Haunted Spider (3) - in third slot for a low cost two ranged attack;

Death Elemental (3) - in last slot to fill out the team with a ranged magic attack.

This team used the whole cap of 17 mana and should be good against a magic heavy attack.  Even with Alric and a number of magic attackers, it they are mainly low health ones they will really hurt against Owster. I could be in trouble however if they used a strong sneak attack melee team though.....

Surprise! - the opposition did something different and ran a Death deck as well but with more of a sneak/opportunity focus rather than ranged.

Zintaar (3) - as summoner for the minus one to enemy melee;

Giant Scorpion (4) - in first slot to tank with it's armor and health. Personally Animated Corpse is a better tank but this is what he went with.  It can be said that the Scorpions advantage however over the Corpse is the two speed (to the Corpse's one) and sometimes speed can make all the difference.

Maggots (3) - in second slot for a one melee opportunity attack with two speed;

Skeleton Assassin (3) - in third slot for a fast melee sneak attack;

Twisted Jester (4) - in last slot for its fast sniper two ranged attack;

Also using the whole 17 mana cap this team negated my Owster unfortunately and weakened the attack of the Animated Corpse.  It focused on a bit more speed and sneak/opportunity as its way of attacking.  Would it beat the greater ranged attack or not - lets see.

Turn One - Skeleton Assassin goes first attacking the Death Elemental and blasting the Spider.  The Death Elemental returns fire and hits his Jester and blasts his Skeleton Assassin.  His Jester fires and hits my jester, blasts the Animated Corpse and kills the Spider.  My Jester returns fire and hits his Jester and kills the Skeleton Assassin - one kill each now! The Scorpion hits the Animated Corpse and blasts my Jester and the Animated Corpse returns the same but kills the one health maggots.  Thats a bonus as the Maggots didn't get an attack in but fairs fair as my spider didn't get a shot either! The turn ends with both the Corpse and Scorpion still tanking with four life each. It's close but I think I may have the advantage.

Turn Two - The Death Elemental goes first this time killing his Jester and blasts the Scorpion.  My Jester goes next hitting the Scorpion for two leaving it with just one life and allowing the Animated Corpse to deliver the coup de grace and finish the Scorpion off.  And that's the battle won with the Death Elemental and the Animated Corpse both surviving.  Turned out to be an easy two turn victory with the Animated Corpse's six life making a difference as he ended the battle still with three life!

And so that's another challenge - possibly easier than expected and who knows, an Alric magic deck might have actually been harder even through Owster.... maybe we'll never know!
