Splinterlands - Battle Library Seventeen - Being Zen can make you win

By Silver Crypto | Tales of the Crypt0 | 23 Dec 2021

Sometimes the quiet path of being zen, being slow, being quiet can bring great rewards.

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

In Battle Library Seventeen we look at a battle where the attributes of peace and tranquility made the difference in a life mirror match.  Ok that is a bit cryptic so lets look at the lineup and you will see what I mean.

The rules that applied to this battle were:

- Mana cap of 25 - Not particularly large;

- Fire, Life, Death or Dragon splinters only;

- Explosive Weaponry - all cards have the blast ability;

- Keep your distance - no melee monsters allowed.

As you can see from my team I chose peace and tranquility - that is the Warrior of Peace for a relaxing start and Time Mage and Creeping Ooze to slow things down so we could all smell the roses.  In all seriousness what I was aiming for was to use the Warrior of Peace up front with his high life and use the Time Mage and Creeping Ooze to reduce the enemies speed and hope for misses.

Summoner - Sloan (4) - For the added ranged attack!;

Warrior of Peace (7) - since he was allowed and had a high life amount.  His demoralise ability was useless (no melee) but he makes a great tank;

Time Mage (4) - for the slow ability and the magic attack;

Creeping Ooze (1) - for the slow ability;

Pelacor Arbalest (6) - For the double two ranged attack which is good on its own but better with blast!;

Silvershield Archers (2) - for the ranged snipe attack (snipe and blast are a good combo);

Agent of Chaos (1) - to fill out the team and be a back tank (speedbump).

Using 25 out of 25 this team worked on a basis of the Arbalest and Archers to do the damage, the Mage and the Ooze to ensure my attackers went first and the Warrior of Peace to tank and hopefully get a miss or two with his speed.

The opponent had used life a number of times and did so again making this a mirror match in many respects.

Summoner - Sloan (4) - Life vs Life with us both using the extra ranged attack;

Agent of Chaos (1) - as his "tank" or speedbump;

Herbalist (2) - has some ranged attack and gets in the way of my attackers;

Supply Runner (6) - for the two ranged attack;

Scavo Hireling (3) - for the repair skill;

Truth Seeker (3) - for the two armor to the team;

Pelacor Arbalest (6) - for the doubled up range attack which as in my team works great with blast;

This team used 25 out of the 25 cap.  A different approach to mine, using truthspeaker armor and scavo hireling for repair to up the survivability of his team.

Lets see what works best, speed or armor?

Turn One - His team is all reduced to a speed of one so my team starts with the time mage killing the agent of chaos and blasting the herbalist.  The arbalest on my team goes next killing the herbalist with two shots (armor then life), damaging the supply runner with blast and forcing the supply runner to the front making him useless as an attacker.  The opposition arbalest misses due to the speed differential with the warrior of peace but gets his second shot on target. The silvershield archers hit the scavo hireling and blast both the supply runner and truthseker before the hireling repairs the supply runners armor.  The turn ends with the warrior of peace on six life, the supply runner with two armor and one life. His team is at a big disadvantage now as his sole attacker is the arbalest.

Turn Two - The time mage again goes first and due to his magic attack bypassing armor takes out both the supply runner and scavo hireling! The arbalest goes next with his powerful double attack which due to blast kills both the truthseeker and the opposition arbalest to win the match!  An easy win with speed and a big meatshield ensuring I took out his team easily!

A few reminders from this match - Ranged is generally useless in the first slot, magic bypasses armor and speed kills (or at least allows one to attack first).
