While I was watching the Mason Bees visit my Peach tree I found a single Lady Bug wandering around on the trunk of the tree. It was walking towards some budding leaves coming from the tree trunk. This early growth has honey dew that the Peach tree releases that attracts predators like this Lady Bug. Other insects such as Ants are also attracted to the honey dew and will protect the tree from other insects.

The little red bug seemed to know exactly what it was after. I could smell it as well close up to the tree. It has a mild peach smell to it, and gives me a sense of what the peaches will smell like if they end up forming in a few months.
It had its butt up in the air, getting into the crevasse between the budding leaves drinking the honey dew produced by the Peach tree.
Glad to see natural predators wandering around the tree, and hope they will help to keep pests away and protect my peaches. Hard to say yet if they are going to form, but in a month or two I should have a better idea of if the frosts got to them or not. We are still having freezing mornings so who knows if its going to successfully fruit this year or not.
