I Cancelled My Gym Membership

Bye Bye Planet Fitness

If you can't tell by the title or the Heading 2 that I just used, I cancelled my gym membership. Before you go assuming that it was because Planet Fitness did something wrong, I want to tell you that I still really like Planet Fitness and can easily see myself being a member again when I get more cash.

How did I come to this choice? It's easy. Money. I was spending $23.64 each month on a premium membership that I wasn't utilizing. That is $283.68 a year I could use elsewhere. Okay at this point we're splitting hairs on ways to save money, but an extra $23 each month could help give some of my interest accounts growing a bit faster. 👀

Most people imagine a total nightmare when trying to cancel a gym membership. We hear horror stories about never being able to cancel, having to buy out a contract, being offered discounts to stay, ect... so of course we are going to think the process is hard. For me, however, it took less than a minute. I showed up to my local Planet Fitness, said I would like to cancel a membership. I just had to sign and date a paper, and I was good to go. They even reminded me that I was still free to take advantage of my previous membership until the expiration date.

I feel bad because the process was so easy and I had been putting it off for so long. It's December and I have had my fitness game since late September. So there is a good chunk of time that I was laying for a membership that I wasn't using. I'm kicking myself for it now, but going forward I won't have to worry about wasting money in the health and fitness section of my life.

The downside is that I have lost access to wonderful treadmills and elliptical machines. That loss will hurt me the most because I'm a cardio person. I get some jogging in during my fitness game, but it doesn't compare to actually using a treadmill, or hell, actually jogging outside. There are plenty of pros and cons that we could talk about but I think the point is driven home. Ups and downs to my decision.

I'll include the screenshots of today's workout down below for good measure, but I do want to hear from my audience this time around. Do you have a gym membership? Have you cancelled a membership? 😂 Thoughts on home workouts? Let me know!
