How to mine crypto when you make food for people - intro

By cookingwithbenoit | Side track | 19 Mar 2021

Hey  crypto bros, I'm Benoit and alongside my partner and my daughter, I work as a restaurant manager (at least up to October 2020 when the local government shut us down imposing  a confinement). A simple family business in a very small summer place, where nothing is much happening during slow season. By the way, Benoit is a French name. It's also known as Benedict, Benito or even Barak or Baruch. It means : "the blessed".

When guests are coming and there's no official WHO pandemic down the street, restaurant business is good and days are happy. In the meantime, Windows' Gates came in and publicly stated that he would jab everybody - well, almost everybody - to make sure people can go to the restaurant again.

A year after 15 days to flatten the curve, my restaurant is still closed, because, er, well, you know as much as I do - officially speaking of course.

SO WHAT NOW ?

Not working - or very little - leaves you with plenty of time to think of alternative ways to make a living. Including those hidden gems you were never really interested in, because time goes by very quickly when you're busy doing stuff. So with a specific budget of some fiat currency we didn't want to leave on a bank account, we bet on mining some crypto currencies, literally hidden decentralized tokens, out of the blockchain system.

Studying the question even further, we decided to invest into Monero (XMR) and Ethereum (ETH) mining rigs and build them from scratch, on our own. Mission impossible, you'd think ? That's what these series of posts are all about : To figure out the whole procedure, from online building, figuring out compatibility and prices, to buying the elements and where to find them (may I remind you that we are in the midst of a GPU shortage ?), to putting them together once received...

I won't go into too much details, because literature on the subject is plentiful and available on so many platforms that it would make your head spin. But I'll tell what happened to me, with my very limited knowledge of this wide and sometimes very technical topic. I hope you'll find this at least intriguing. Talk to you guys soon.

This is Cooking With Benoit's alternate blog, for everything not food. That's a wide open domain and it needs to be kept this way.
