Have you ever made “logical” choices that still left you with a knot in your stomach?
Ticking off what you’re supposed to do, but feeling like you lost a bit of yourself?
It’s happened to me more times than I’d like to admit. Not because I didn’t know what I wanted. But because the voice that knew... was too gentle to be heard in such a noisy world.
There’s a voice inside you that doesn’t shout.
It’s not the voice that scolds you for procrastinating again.
Nor the one that tells you what you should do, after you compare your life to someone else’s.
This voice – calm, almost whispered – is there when you pause your running. When you breathe and stop trying to impress anyone, not even yourself.
It’s the voice that speaks simple truths. Uncommercial. Sometimes uncomfortable.
But to hear it, you have to give yourself permission to be silent. Not to prove anything. Not to fix anything.
Not long ago, I had a phase where everything I did was “right” – but not alive.
My day made sense on paper, but not in my heart.
Until one evening, instead of filling my time with “what I should do”, I just stopped. I sat on the floor in a dark room, no music, no notifications, no intention to be “zen”. I simply paused.
After about 20 minutes of inner restlessness, something appeared. An idea. A feeling. A clear thought: “What if I went simpler, even if it seems slower?”
I felt like someone inside me had been waiting there all along. No judgement. No pressure.
Since then, I’ve made it a habit to create space for that voice.
It’s not about meditation, necessarily. It’s not a “ritual”.
It’s about reminding yourself daily that not everything valuable makes noise.
A few moments where you:
-
turn off your screens and open a window
-
walk for 10 minutes without purpose, just feeling your steps
-
write down what you feel, not just what you have to do
It doesn’t seem like much. But it’s where reconnecting begins. With yourself.
On the MindInvest blog, we often talk about how we organise our outer lives: money, habits, investing in the future.
But today it’s about a different kind of investment.
One that doesn’t yield returns on charts, but in clarity. In calm. In consciously choosing how you live.
🔸A challenge for today
Create 5 minutes of silence where you do nothing. Not even “relax”.
And see what comes up there.
Maybe not immediately. Maybe not today.
But if you repeat it... you’ll rediscover a voice that asks for no applause. Just presence.
See you in the next article, where we’ll talk about why chronic tiredness doesn’t always come from work, but from lack of clarity.
