I've been a long-time aficionado of this genre since I bought a copy of the anthology 'Burning Chrome' way back in the 80's, and did so after reading the story by William Gibson 'Johnny Mnemonic' in Omni magazine.
However, there's been a serious problem with this genre in that it's become a trope, something of a joke, and with the disgrace that was Cybperpunk: 2077 we saw it become less-than-intriguing.
It became DOOM, with swap-out body-parts, basically.
I'm an author, so I'm going to throw my own Cyberpunk-genre works into the shark-pool and we'll see what the audience decides as that is the only proper way to evaluate any body of work.
What to expect...
1; I don't do trope, never have and never will except those stunningly rare times when it's the preferred way to go. Tropes do exist for a reason like Cliche` after all.
One of the best things about real-world Cryptocurrencies is they solve a lot of annoying tropes and problems in Cyberpunk fiction, and will be an integral part of all stories I write in this genre.
2; Cyberpunk:2077 went insanely too-far with hyper-violence. Hyper-violence has it's place, but it's an element that can really get in the way of storytelling, so yes there'll be violence, but balanced versus being able to tell a story properly. Also, constant hyper-violence is entirely unrealistic except in an absolutely and entirely lawless world...so, that.
3; Sex, and it's actually a necessity in Cyberpunk as a cornerstone of the genre is one's Humanity and how one relates to fellow Humans as well as The Human Experience. Sex is the absolute best way to show and demonstrate such story and genre elements.
4; Realism as best-possible.
Far too many Cyberpunk works equate cybernetic enhancement to 'magic' in terms of what an enhanced person can do. Well, Physics and such is The Hard Wall in this universe. Enhanced reflexes as example, can only get so fast due to limitations in muscle-response time, nerve-conduction speeds, neuron-firing times and a lot of other physiological factors.
Enhanced reflexes will NEVER allow you to run like The Flash in the comics. Cybernetic replacement limbs, again those get insanely abused in Cyberpunk fiction to insanely and ludicrous degrees, by way of example.
Same with enhancement options that armor the body; Bulletproof skin?? I don't think so.
5; A.I., Virtual-Intelligence and more.
I have my own ideas, and I admit they were inspired by BLADE RUNNER and the andoids seen in the ALIEN franchise but mine used those as springboards to evolve. Also, again, No Trope with this element of my writing. I think folks are pretty tired of the same old predictable murder-machines, and want to see something NEW.
I have a body of work on the shelves I'll be dusting-off, sprucing-up, completing then polishing and publishing. With luck, it'll show and remind folks of the intriguing aspects of this genre rather than it being buried in body-count silliness.
The plan is to get Book One of my current work finished and published. I'll be then working on Book Two while dusting-off and working on my Cyberpunk-genre material which is actually almost complete. Just needs to be completed, then editing and polished, and it'll be ready for publishing.
Yes, I work on multiple things at the same time, my brain operates like a car's ignition distributor.
I don't know why, it's just what works best for me. (shrug)
