Greetings readers,
Brief intro
Earlier today my first season of Splinterlands came to an end. I have to admit that when I first started 2 weeks ago I found it difficult to enjoy. Having 0 power and with a relatively weak (I find) match-making system, probably influenced by the limited number of active players, makes for a difficult start in this game. Unless you plan to spend money that is.
I don't have an issue spending a few euros on a game I enjoy playing. Especially in this day and age when you have the freemium model applied in gaming. However, I do treat these games as the demos of old. Basically, you get to play a bit the game free of charge but if you want to continue you need to buy it.
For Splinterlands, most of the functionalities are locked behind the spell book purchase so I took a gamble and paid the 10$ price of the spellbook. By the way, you only need to buy it once and no need to renew it every season. This is a good thing, as I was afraid it would be a consumable per season.
End of the first season
Finished in Bronze 2 with 7 loot chests. Over 3k DEC thanks to 2 golden cards that I sold and with which I bought a few cards.
Did I move away from the tactic of surrendering if odds were against me? Not really. I still use it simply because it makes things go so much faster.
Did I purchase anything other than the spellbook? Yes, I got 2$ worth of credits which I used to boost my earnings from the daily quests. This was not a bad deal considering that one of those extra drops provided one of the golden cards.
I am looking forward to this season and continuing to earn new cards and rise in ranks. The aim for the next season is to be able to hold my ground against stronger players as well and thus, not having to surrender.
How did the end of season affect you? Was it rewarding? Let me know below.
Take care
Alex
