CryptoDozer 2.0: I Hope You Have Rich Parents (UPDATE)

CryptoDozer 2.0: I Hope You Have Rich Parents (UPDATE)

It's always interesting to find a blockchain game that actually has gameplay. Most of them are pyramid schemes or money sinks thinly disguised. Some even throw in a collectible or two to make you feel like you can make money. Along with hundreds of others who have exactly the same item.

I really had high hopes for this one. It has addictive gameplay, earworm music, and interesting collectibles that you can upgrade. But that's where it ends. After enticing you into its hypnotic gameplay, it slams you into a paywall. I understand there are costs involved in keeping this running. However, it should be possible to advance in the game, albeit extremely slowly, without paying for everything.

When it comes to paying for everything, the cake, this takes. While you are given 1000 cookies (coins) to begin with, more than half is lost falling off the sides. Also, a red coin will turn into a heavy gold coin if it falls into your stash. The sole purpose of this heavy gold coin is to block the lighter cookies from dropping into your stash and herd them to the sides. While it does cause the cookies and coins to slide into your stash when it drops, the gains are negligible. Now imagine having three of these practically immovable pieces on the board? Yeah, you're not getting any of your cookies back.

On the upside, you do get to swap out your stuffed animals for more cookies. But that just takes away from the stuffed animals you need to upgrade them. What's left to do? Buy more cookies!

I mentioned that you can upgrade the toy animals, and it's pretty exciting when you to but, and here's the nut kicker, you only get a couple of potions. You better know that you need 6 different kinds of animals with the same name to do that. When you need more potions, you can buy them at the store which is conveniently located to the right of the screen. These are never given away.

It's a good thing they aren't stingy on dropping the treasure chests 'cause you do get to have a bunch of them dropped. However, as anyone who's played anything that involves treasure chests would tell you, you need a key. How do you procure a key? By forking over ETH. Only by forking over ETH. I have a ton of chests but can't open them because I have no keys.

You can sell the stuffed animals on OpenSea or on the Playdapp Marketplace. However, guess who is selling the exact same thing you are? Hundreds of other people. You'd be lucky to sell something for a thousandth of an ETH.

A good game will pull you into its world and make you become a part of it. It will make every achievement is an achievement against the little game people behind the screen trying to thwart your every move. With CryptoDozer 2.0, every achievement, and there isn't much if you don't cough up, is an achievement against the game developers who always show up with an open palm. That sucks.

if you do decide to take this game and unlock chests and whatnot, I hope you have a pretty good trust fund.

-UPDATE

It is possible to earn keys and possibly other stuff to use in-game. However, you have to play their other "interconnected" games. I can write another article about this but it really isn't worth it. Why? It's like telling a player they can get a lift in Halo by playing Flight Simulator.

How do you rate this article?
