For today's post I am going to look at BAND and include a brief comparison of its performance with LINK which serves pretty much the same function in Cryptoland.
Band Protocol (BAND) has been struggling with weak price performance, and has come under heavy pressure to sell as well as competitive challenges in the oracle market. History has shown us that its token has repeatedly failed to break resistance levels, faces risks from token unlocks, and suffers from limited adoption compared to rivals and particularly Chainlink (LINK).
BAND has been stuck near the $1 support zone since late 2022 and consistently forming lower highs (I love that term - it says so much :) ), even if it is negative. and even when it bounced in February 2025, it failed to establish a strong upward trend, leaving investors cautious. It just seems unable to budge. To try to create some upward movement, somewhat counter-productively, large amounts of BAND tokens have been released onto exchanges, creating a mounting sell pressure. This oversupply has made it difficult for the price to sustain rallies, even after short-term gains like the “Coinbase Effect” pump in 2024, although I must confess to missing that one. Furthermore there are increasing concerns regarding its Single Point(s) of Failure SPOF). As a decentralised oracle, Band Protocol connects smart contracts with real-world data, but such oracle systems are vulnerable to single points of failure (SPOF) in that if one component fails, the reliability of the entire network can be compromised, raising doubts about its robustness compared to its competitors such as Chainlink (LINK).
In fact if you were to compare BAND and LINK, LINK comes out on top every time with LINK being widely adopted across DeFi and BAND only seeing limited integrations. LINK is more resilient concerning its price and this is aided by a strong decentralisation reputation and frankly investors feel optimistic about LINK and are extremely cautious about BAND.
So while BAND isn't actually “dead,” its life signs are certainly a cause of concern. In 2023 I made the bad tactical decision to go with BAND instead of LINK based on its market price that gave me cause for great optimism. Admittedly, I knew a lot less than I do now and it is not the main parameter that I consider now, but in hindsight (always the greatest self-judgement) I should have gone for LINK and the outstanding question is as to whether i should abandon it or reallocate the resources at a loss to LINK. Of course another serious consideration is just to abandon it and throw it all into BTC whose prices are currently (at the time of writing) tumbling because as I wrote yesterday the king of coins will always come good with some extremely high projections forecast (can I say that it seems to be saying it twice) even by 2030.
As I always caution, these are personal views. Always DYOR.
And as always stay safe and well my friends.
