Does it make sense to convince pro-military citizens?

We all know that there were people in Nazi Germany who were against the war. Someone was an activist of the anti-fascist movement, someone was alone, but they somehow tried to convince their pro-military fellow citizens to the best of their abilities.
Let's try to think about it, but did it make sense?

Probably at the very beginning, when many still had doubts, persuasion worked in some cases. But after four years of war, apparently not anymore.
Why? Because psychological protection is at its maximum. For a man who spent four years justifying the war and had already invested too much moral, emotional, and sometimes material resources in this position, admitting that it was all for nothing, a mistake, or a crime meant destroying his own worldview and self-esteem, and feeling humiliated. Most preferred to double down and go all the way rather than go through such cognitive dissonance.

Towards the end of the war, the Germans reacted particularly aggressively to attempts to change their minds. Probably, no one tried anymore, because it was dangerous.
Even if someone saw cracks in the official picture (losses, economic decline, lack of a "lightning victory"), they preferred to explain them by the betrayal of the elites and the machinations of the West, rather than admit the fallacy and failure of the whole idea. The Germans were no longer angry at the war, but at the fact that their army was supposedly fighting too "gently and carefully."

When a person has decided deep inside himself that he is definitely on the side of the truth, he will turn any fact into proof of his correctness and that it is necessary to be tougher with enemies. A person is no longer arguing for the truth, he is arguing for his self-respect and affected pride. After all, he cannot admit that he is an idiot, whom the authorities have been leading by the nose for so long and using to their advantage.

That's why I think it was extremely difficult to communicate with the Germans. Even after the fall of Germany in '45, they continued to believe that they were right, until all the secret documents and plans of their Fuhrer were published, and they had to face the facts.
