The city of Faro, the capital of the Algarve, is separated from the Atlantic by a lagoon that distances it from its beaches, which means that it does not retain tourists who are looking for sun and beach and who usually go to other coastal locations.

However Faro is a cozy and quiet city with an attractive harbor, well-tended parks and squares and an old part full of footpaths and cafés with pleasant terraces. In this village the student population guarantees a very lively nightlife, while its well-preserved medieval neighborhoods house interesting museums, churches etc ...

Some interesting dates to visit Faro are during the International Music Festival of the Algarve, usually held between April and June, during FolkFaro, a great folk festival with lots of shows and dances that is celebrated at the end of August.

At the end of October we have the Fair of Santa Iria, which is one of the most important traditional festivals in the city, where Santa Irene is honored with fair attractions and many shows.
