Trip Portugal - The fields in the north of Portugal

In the north of Portugal the area is the most mountainous and the temperature is also much lower than the south (such as the areas of Alentejo and Algarve). Even though it is a very mountainous area, we have several fields for cultivation and in addition the best place for growing wine grapes is in the Douro area which is located in the North of Portugal.

Even on the outskirts of cities you will find several houses with fields, as we Portuguese are very fond of organic products. I try to avoid the fruits and vegetables of the big supermarkets due to the amount of chemicals that are put in the food to look good.

Being a very mountainous area with a lot of nature and cultivation, it also shows an area with less health problems. That is why we hear that we are a country with a very aging population, as life expectancy in Portugal also increases. Unfortunately, financial incentives for families to have more children did not increase.

Being a small country also has great advantages, because at any time you can leave the big cities and go to the villages and have a more relaxed life. More and more, I see that it is better to live a little further away from the city, because cities only bring stress and pollution to us.

In the Portuguese countryside you will find everything. We plant a lot of variety, we just don't bet on tropical fruits, because here in northern Portugal, temperatures for this type of cultivation are more complicated.

If you visit Portugal, do not forget to come to the North and especially to visit the Port Wine vineyards.
