Yesterday I made a post about the sleep cycle and why we have to sleep. I know for a lot of people it is very hard to sleep. Some people might need some advice on how to sleep better. Here on 5 tips on how to sleep better.
#1 Pay attention on what you are drinking in the evening
Coffee, tea, caffeine products are a killer for our sleep. They will make you stay awake. So if you want to sleep better then you better stop in the afternoon already with these drinks.
#2 Prevent light in the evening
We all have a biological clock in our body. Normally when it becomes light we should wake up and become active and when it becomes dark we should rest and sleep. Light from our lamps, phones, laptops or tv's are basically alarm clocks for our body to stay awake. I know it's hard, but it would be better for us to stop using these around 8 PM/20:00. This way your body will adjust to the darkness, get tired and makes you wanna sleep.
#3 Prevent stress
One big factor to let us stay awake is, guess what, stress. Stress is our body's way of staying active: fight, flight response. See it like this. When there is a lion near your bed, will you fall asleep? No, because it's dangerous. No the chances for a lion near you bed are not that high, but stress from your work, relationships, money problems or others will still be in your head.
#4 Relax
Like I said stress will prevent your body to go to sleep. Other than getting rid of the stress there are still ways to decrease the stress in your body. things like a short walk, a bath or relaxations exercises are great ways to relax a bit.
#5 Fixed sleep times
Make your body get used to the hours that you want to sleep. By going to bed every night around the same time will make your body get used to it. It might be hard for a few weeks, but eventually your body will get used to it and you will be able to sleep better.
