Hey everyone, how are your Splinterlands battles going? It's tough for sure, facing many opponents with higher level decks are simply, better cards than I have - and I have some pretty nice cards already!
It's been like this since the rotation from Chaos Legion out of modern, with less players available in modern, suddenly I was fighting with my Silver deck in Diamond league but to my surprise, almost two months later, I'm still in Diamond!

My lower win rate (just below 50% most of the times) offsets the higher rewards available in Diamond, so all in all, not much has changed for now when it comes to earnings but learning all the new cards and the excitement of a completely new game play is pretty cool - I could almost automatically make the Chaos Legion teams in my mind as soon as the new battle screen came up but now I have to put my mind to work again!

I'm making this blog post to take part in the new Splinterlands Social Media Challenge to hopefully earn some extra funds I can put in to more card so I can keep building my account while I work on improving my situation with Splinterlands Land with my personal funds.

So, this weeks Challenge is the same as last weeks:

Bringing Giants in to a fight

Today I want to talk about something I see quite a lot; players depending on one or two mighty monsters, expensive in mana and generally with a lot of HP, even in lower mana battles these giants get lined up with the expectation of shredding trough the enemy team.

Something I have learned over the years, playing Splinterlands is that the game is balanced in such a good way, that many times, using your brain and make tactical choices instead of using brute force to be the winner of the match is the best choice in most fights, without some of the great abilities like Giant Killer and Forcefield we had in Chaos Legion, we now have to be creative to fight the big ones, but the fact that many small, defeats one giant still is valid.

Sharing a battle

This battle is a fresh one, OK.. I have to admit, I didn't had any plans for this weeks post about something amazing 😂 but since I'm a daily player, cool things happen every day like with this battle I was not expecting to win but I tend to underestimate my own teams I think it's just something psychological seeing such a great card and I then go like.. OK.. I'm doomed! 😏

First look at the battlefield:

Well, we're both going for the same Ambush tactic choosing Akane but that's where all similarities stop, in fact, the two teams are quite the opposite where my opponent went for one Giant and two filler cards (hey there's a foundation card there!) my team consists of many smaller monsters all doing damage while the other team has to eat trough all these pesky small creatures first while they are all firing.

In comparison: every round, the enemy team is doing 6 damage while my team, although smaller monsters, are doing 11 damage in total - almost double!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Akane - reason: Ambush is very important with Equal Opportunity.
  • First position: Daigendark Surveyor - reason: Meat shield with spell reflect.
  • Second position: Thanalorian Scion - reason: With only 1 HP and Void Armor, this unit draws all fire.
  • Third position: Abyssal Elemental - reason: Nice magic attacker with Resurgence.
  • Fourth position: Shock Trooper - reason: High damage, with it's 4 speed and Swiftness it can fire before the enemy can do so.
  • Fifth position: Mar Toren Seeker - reason: Fast unit with Dodge.
  • Sixth position: Mar Toren Trader - reason: Headwinds, countering Archers.

The Battle:

Ambush Round: Because we both had Ambush it was pretty even, the first kill is already made and while my Surveyor's spell reflect doesn't do any damage due to the Deflect ruleset, it's still 6 HP the enemy team has to eat trough for only 2 mana.

Round 1: Six vs. one at the end of round 1 already, the Void from Rage is a problem though but my front line is pretty tough to get trough with Void Armor and Resurgence, it's going to take five rounds before my Shock Trooper is in the first position.

Round 2: I forgot my Shock Trooper zaps my own team and so it killed my Scion, pretty lame but I think it's fine anyway...

Round 3: And the Giant is slain!!!

Round 4: This early in the season, I'm still in Gold 1 so the rewards aren't very high just yet but I'll take it!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Since the maintenance window got it the way for my playing time last Tuesday, it destroyed the energy head start I had and because of a bust workday and real life commitments I haven't been able to make a new head start by draining enough energy I can outlast a day of not playing so my energy isn't wasted and doesn't reach 50 / 50... so there's work to be done here, hopefully I see you on my next post, or maybe we meet on the battlegrounds of Praetoria!
