Hi everyone! This is my entry for this weeks battle mage secrets. This weeks challenge is the Close Range ruleset, in which monsters with ranged attacks are allowed to attack in the first position. To be honest, I do very little with this ruleset! it's just nice that IF my archers get to the first position they can still attack, so it's less important to put them at the back. It is nice sometimes to put a fast, archer a little more to the front such as Axe Master or Lira the Dark but it's very coincidental for me, for example in a Distance-Only / Close Range ruleset combination, where fast archers can pull off some misses.
Naga Assassin is also cool for this because it has the backfire ability, where missed attacks causes 2 damage to the attacker.
Maybe the ruleset is better to use in higher leagues? let me know, I'm curious 😄 It's just like some other rulesets as Knock-Out, I ignore them and just try to make good teams for the other rulesets if there are any.
A strong summoner I would use for this is Quix the Devious, one of my favorites, it's -1 archery damage is cool, but it also does -1 speed, which make enemy monsters missing attacks more likely and get back fired on.
The battle I wanna share today is a Brawl battle with a triple ruleset; Armored Up, Close Range and Target Practice with a 45 mana cap and only three splinters to choose from: Earth, Life and Death.
So, every ruleset of this three favors the use of magic and ranged attacker, but because of the Armored Up ruleset, I decided to use my Grandmaster Rathe because he adds some extra magic protection in giving everyone +1 armor and, very important, make all armor VOID armor 👌
To be honest, I expected my opponent to play Earth magic so I not only brought Rathe, but also a silence monster to nerf all magic damage and a little sneak protection at the same time.
The funny thing was, my opponent had the same thoughts I think, but maybe didn't own Rathe? So he put up a nice General Sloan team with Legionnaire Alvar as a tank, with healing and armor repair in the back line, so the end result was roughly the same, void armored tanks, both getting healed and repaired.
However... I put in a little spice in my team 😇 and he's not going to like that! Bloodlust / Martyr / Resurrect play...
My strategy worked perfect! in the first turn my martyr card got killed, boosting Captain Katie and Corsair Bosun's attacks, my Adelaide Brightwing resurrected the martyr card, it got killed again for an extra martyr boost, making my cards very dangerous, especially Captain Katie with her Bloodlust ability!
In only round 2 she's up to 6 magic damage and a nice 5 speed, so she's fast enough to miss some ranged attacks. And when bloodlust gets going, it's really hard to stop, and you'd better start to run! 😁
Also nice for me: the enemy Adelaide Brightwing was in the snipe position, not the bright-est thing to do, so it died before it could resurrect any of here fallen team mates.
At the start of round 3 Katie is so fast she already fired on the Arbalest before I could make a screenshot, no void armor on the enemy backline, and with this damage output it's one shot-one kill at this point, snowballing her damage and make her unstoppable!
Round 4, Supply Runner, you may be fast and add extra speed to your team, but you can't outrun magic damage! So he's the first to die on this round.
Round 5, Only Marisol Contuma was alive, very good card, high speed, high damage, bloodlust, great second position, it couldn't shine in this battle though and was sent to follow her team mates into oblivion.
Look at Captain Katie's stats in the last round! She ended the fight with 10 magic damage and a whopping 9 speed! 💪
