Trade Republic Review: My Experience After Over a Year

By KMatt | Investing and more | 4 hours ago

Today I'd like to talk to you about Trade Republic, the German-based broker/bank I've been using for over a year now, and I'm really happy with it for several reasons.
Let's start straight away, as I like it, analyzing the pros and cons.

Why I Choose It: Interface and Costs
The smartphone app has a user-friendly interface that I consider among the best and most minimalist on the European market.
It combines disarming simplicity with zero commissions on savings plans, requiring just €1 for manual trading.
Another aspect I really appreciated is that, in effect, it behaves like a zero-cost bank account.
There are no monthly or annual fees and no hidden costs.
Uninvested liquidity is remunerated at a gross annual rate in line with ECB market yields (currently 2.25% gross per annum). Interest is credited monthly. Remember, the money is neither tied up nor tied up; it can be spent or withdrawn at any time.

The real turning point for Italy is the Italian IBAN and the managed regime. This means it acts as a withholding agent and directly manages taxation on capital gains and interest, eliminating the hassle of manually calculating it on your tax return.

Card and Saveback
Trade Republic offers a debit card, available free in virtual format, for €5 for the physical plastic version and €50 for the stunning mirrored metal version.
It doesn't offer traditional cashback, but a feature called Saveback: for every purchase made, 1% of the amount spent is automatically invested in your preferred savings plan.
To activate this feature, you just need a minimum investment of €50 in a savings plan.
I think it's a great way to save and invest simultaneously without realizing it.

Investments, Savings Plans, and Spreads
Automatic savings plans (on ETFs, stocks, and bonds) are always free and can be set on a weekly or monthly basis. The only cost, as mentioned, is €1 for each manual purchase or sale outside of the savings plan.
Regarding the spread, Trade Republic relies on a market-maker model (primarily through the LS Exchange).
The spread is variable and dependent on market conditions and hours. Overall, I believe it is quite competitive, although it is not always the best overall.

Customer Service
In April 2026, it was completely overhauled. Previously, it was poor, managed only via ticket/email with biblical response times.
Now, however, after much feedback and complaints, the new 24/7 customer service has been introduced with human support via chat and phone, with ticket tracking.

APP Structure
The app is extremely clean and divided into 5 clear sections:

- Securities: The heart of the platform, where you can monitor, buy, sell, and manage ETFs, stocks, and other major investments.

- Private Markets: A recently introduced section providing access to alternative investments such as private equity, designed for those seeking diversification beyond traditional markets.

- Fixed Income: An area dedicated to bonds with yields, showing maturities and risk levels.

- Crypto Wallet: A simple way to buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies, suitable for beginners.

- Balance: This is where you can invest, spend, and withdraw uninvested funds, earning at ECB interest rates (2.25%).

To conclude and summarize, Trade Republic stands out for its simplicity, transparency, and minimal cost structure. It is a truly comprehensive current account, offering many services and particularly suited to long-term investors who want to deposit even small, consistent monthly sums without the worry of high fees.

I'll list my pros and cons to make it easier for you to read:

PROS
- Reduced costs on savings plans and interest-bearing accounts

- Managed regime to simplify tax returns and filing

CONS
