The trading card game Splinterlands exploded last week with the launch of the SPS Gouvernance Token. The price of the token rose approximately 5 times its starting price from about 0.2$ to over 1$ momentarily. Nonetheless, after the surge, a strong relapse to the current level of approximately 0.4$ occurred. Some of you might wonder if you are too late for investing in Splinterlands, or you are generally curious about the future price development of the SPS token, DEC, and Splinterlands as a whole. Looking at the chart above (posted on the official discord server) I think it becomes quite apparent in what direction the trend moves. The surge in new players comes at a time where lots of cards going out of print and new cards are not being printed for a while. This brings me to my next point.
Card Prices
"Nectar Queen" Card, Splinterlands 2021
Card prices are going through the roof. I'm happy to say: "I can can speak out of my personal experience". I started playing roughly 4 weeks ago. I was really active on the discord server since I started playing. Within the first week, I saw a user posting about a card called "Nectar Queen" which you can see in the image above. Back then one card was .09$ to .11$. I invested approximately 10$ and bought 100 cards (which you can see above in red). Well, let's check the market prices today:

The 1 Year Airdrop
In total, 400 million SPS tokens will be airdropped to players (this is 13.33% of the whole token supply). Instead of having a specific date for the airdrop, the tokens will be distributed daily over a timeframe of 1 year. This clearly indicated to me that Splinterlands is planning to stay around and is long-term oriented. The amount of SPS allocated to a player depends on the assets he is holding at that moment. Land Plots
Last but not least, the launch of the announced land system within Splinterlands. The new update will come with lots of new elements such as land cards, totems, and buildings. I believe it will create a huge push and also a basis for a prosperous future for the game. Splinterlands announced ambitiously:
"Not only are we planning to add new types of cards and a major update to the existing battle system, but we are also planning to add an entire additional game within the game to allow players to take control of the minting of the new cards. We think that this expansion will be groundbreaking - not just for Splinterlands - but for the entire blockchain-based gaming industry!" - Splinterlands, 2021
Again, I got rewarded for investing early. I bought 1 Plot for 40$ about 3 weeks ago, lets check the prices today:

Conclusion
As you can see there is growth in every aspect of Splinterlands. There are even more elements I didn't mention, such as the staking of SPS tokens which will be available soon. In the end, you have to make your own decisions. Nonetheless, considering the above factors in addition to the risk of only 10$ minimum investment(you can even pay with Paypal), I believe Splinterlands is still a golden ticket waiting for us to grab it.
