The Bitcoin (BTC) network has only roughly 11.9% BTC left to mine, or about 2.5 million Bitcoin, according to market analyst ChartsBTC, who tweeted about the milestone on September 27.
- 18.5 million BTC out of the total 21 million supply is currently in circulation
- Half of the 2.5 million BTC left to mine is expected to be mined by 2024, which is when the next halving will occur
- All BTC will be mined by the year 2140
- Bitcoin has been performing well in general, with the asset staying above $10,000 for its longest streak yet, while the DeFi market sees more tokenized Bitcoin
- The number of cryptocurrency users has also tripled since 2018, according to a study by the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance
