An investor in the Hashmasks NFT artwork collection has made a 1000x return on an investment after 3 days, according to data from the OpenSea NFT marketplace as of Feb. 2.
- Released in Jan. 2021, Hashmasks is an art collection consisting of 16,000 digital portraits created by over 70 artists
- The artwork, based on former US President Donald Trump, was the first to be auctioned from the collection, with more auctions to occur at increasing valuations; over 15,000 pieces have already been sold
- After being first bought for 0.1 ETH or $130 by an anonymous user, it was then sold to a user called “Westcoastbill” for 97 ETH or $130,000 at the time of sale
- Hashmasks is a unique NFT in that it grants holders the Name Changing Token (NCT), a native token that allows users to give their Hashmasks artwork a unique name -- a way to commoditize the name itself
- Each artwork accrues 10 NCT per day, with a total of 1,830 NCT required to implement a change in name
- Digital artwork has become one of the cryptocurrency market's hottest segments, with record breaking sales occurring in the past 6 months, including a $777k sale in Dec. 2020
- Other notable sales include the $700k sale of a Cryptopunks artwork, a $141k sale of Vitalik artwork and a $131k sale of Satoshi artwork
