It seems that new online card games are popping up everywhere these days. The one I want to talk about today is called Dark Country. Dark Country is an upcoming blockchain-based, trading card game. From their recent game play video, it seems to follow the standard format of fighting over a battlefield with summoned creatures and spells to try and defeat your opponent. Much like MTG, Hearthstone, Gods Unchained, etc.
Dark Country differs a bit in theme, however, showing us a dark fantasy / western mystical vibe! I love the artwork that I've seen so far. I mean, come on! Who doesn't enjoy seeing a zombie cowboy dual-wielding shotguns?!
Dark Country also brings something else interesting to the table -- a rather unique approach to pack opening. Within the WAX ecosystem, mint number can be very important to collectors. And acquiring that #1 mint usually involves being able to be the first to open packs and/or some luck. But rather than force everyone into race as soon as the gates open, the first pack openings will be a randomized, community event!
Everyone who purchases packs will have the opportunity to add them to the opening pool. On Nov 19th at 7:00 PM UTC packs will be randomly selected from the pool to be opened. So everyone in the pool will have a chance to win those valuable #1 mints! This is a very egalitarian way to handle what could otherwise be a frustrating experience. I'm glad to see that folks are coming to the realization that the first come first served method is not always the best way to go!
