It is the castle of Vignola, a fortress whose erection probably began between the 10th and 11th centuries.
From the river Panaro it is a quick step to reach the main entrance (closed cause of the pandemic emergency).
before arriving at the main entrance it is possible to see the remnant of a sundial on the floor and on the wall.
The castle is made by different buildings joined together and erected in different moments of history.
The three main towers are named Torre Nonantolana (the Nonantola Tower), Torre delle donne (the Tower of women) and Torre del Pennello (the Brush Tower).
When the castle is open it is possible to visit the interior rooms and the chappel which are decorated with frescoes. There is for example a room called Sala dei leoni e dei leopardi ( the lions and leopards room) which has lions and leopards depicted all over on the walls. it is also possible to climb visit the walkways and towers.
All the images were taken by me with the smartphone camera as I had forgotten my camera at home.
