As we all have seen, and written about here several times, the president of El Salvador is accepting Bitcoin as legal tender. So, since that is now very OLD news, we can see what the atmosphere is like for other latin american countries. 

Mexico is just south of the border, and since I am living here, (for a few more months anyway) I enjoy the benefits of warm weather year round, and the trips to Mexico City to exchange my Bitcoin for Pesos, the national currency.

And speaking of currency, AMLO, as he is lovingly known as to Mexicans, has decided that he will not adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, because he believes that traditional institutions are enough. Obviously there are millions upon millions who disagree with him, he is a very old man mostly set in his ways. 

Now, in all reality, we cant blame him for this. Not saying that we shouldnt try and convince him that Bitcoin is a great investment, I think that accepting his position is going to make him an asset in the next 4 years of his term. 

Living here I have noticed a few things about him. He likes results, and he is very down to earth. I was watching the 2020 election and even after all the corrupt news channels were giving the election to Briben, AMLO wouldnt congratulate him in his victory. He wanted to make sure the results were fully in. That is respectable. 

AMLO wont reject Bitcoin like India has, and even is allowing Bitcoin to thrive here. Bitcoin ATMs are popping up all the time in various cities as people are more and more accepting it into their lives.

AMLO may be set in his ways now, but who is to say that in 4 years Mexico wont have a younger president who sees the potential of Bitcoin as legal tender. And even before his final year as president, AMLO may just decide to adopt it. He may just want to see what happens in El Salvador before he jumps on a train he has no idea where it is heading...
