Polyverse - Where are we now?

Polyverse - Where are we now?

PREFACE:

This is a hot topic and one that I am highly conflicted on. I am by no means going to sit here and type out an article bashing the team behind Polyverse. That also being said I am not going to sit here and back them without reason/proof to back them. I am here today to purely give you the undisputable facts. I may have some opinions but I will clearly state what they are when I state them.

Short History:

On April 16th of 2024 I joined the Polyverse Discord Server. I did it honestly because some of the TACO mods were also mods of this new game so I figured I would check it out. They game was in pre pre pre alpha at this point and not a playable demo yet. But the promise was like all other projects, that if you get in early enough you could win big. I mean that is the gamble right? April 15th is when the discord server opened to the public so I was right there and hit the ground running. Now I am not going to get into the gameplay of the game or all of that as I have other articles I have written with more details on that aspect.

What I will get into though is a brief overview. The game was originally pitched to run on the WAX blockchain because well low cost for transactions and it could handle a lot of transactions that a game like this would need. The OG stakable NFT's that are the character NFT's though would be on the Ethereum blockchain. The mint price for a OG NFT was 0.049 ETH and it would take place on May 7th.

Well fast forward and I got myself 2 OG NFT's. I bought 1 on the initial drop and then bought another on the secondary market.

You can stake your OG NFT's to start earning the ingame resource/money. The sooner you stake the more you get and the more you stake the more you get. These tokens/money are IN-GAME items meaning you can't just swap them for WAX or ETH right away. You would have to wait until the game launches and well yeah. So delayed returns. But again this was pre pre alpha.

You could also earn rewards for being active in the discord which I have been. Currently I am ranked #3 (that is including the game founders and mods and everyone)

So you can say that I am/was invested in this game.

Updates and more Updates:

Over time updates were announced from "The Creator". S/HE would give updates on the project, personal stuff (wedding), game play and all that. It was a healthy amount of communication I would say. There was even a competition during the pre-alpha for those who had staked OG NFT's and played enough you could earn rewards. The competition got a little hairy there for a while because there were a few bugs found that basically could let you do infinite level glitchs and such. But all in all I think it was handled well and I earned a spot on the top 5 and earned rewards (some in-game resource for when the game goes live and a NFT Character as well, which I have not received yet)

That being said I have to state that during this time people were complaining in the discord about how the floor price of the OG characters were too low. There were flippers who were selling their characters for under mint price to try to recoup some of their losses. People were pissed and honestly I wasn't sure what they wanted the team to do.. The game was in pre-alpha so patience was needed.

The Creator kept posting updates on new meetings and funding and all that and things seemed to be going well. They were pretty consistently fixing bugs in the game and it was a great place to be in.

Where do we stand now?

If all of that so far sounds great and you are wondering why on earth I am writing an article, well then this is for you. On July 26th, 2024 The Creator posted an update stating some exciting news and developments. I won't list them as they are in this screenshot:

The last big update on July 26th

That was July 26th, 2024. This was the very next update AFTER the update about the pre-alpha contest winners.

Then on August 6th we get an update about how the team is looking and working with 4 other blockchains to possibly explore other partnerships.

Then on August 9th we get an update about how The Creator is taking a 2 week vacation.

Then on August 28th we get an update about how its been busy busy at Polyverse HQ with meetings about VC Funds, Launchpads, blockchains and such and that there will be 2 'spaces' community events to talk about stuff on Aug 29th and Sept 6th.

But what that update also states is that the update on July 26th, they stated that they will need 45-60 days extra for their roadmap. Basically because of all of these new updates and conversations is taking more time, they will in fact need 90 days now instead of the 45-60 days.

Now if you are bad at math, let me help you. The update they are changing the timeframe on was posted on July 26th. So add 90 days (or roughly 3 months) to that and that would be October 26th, 2024 when they should be back onto their normal roadmap of items and such.

The problem though is that 'The Creator' and 'SDT' (the 2 main Polyverse employees in Discord) have been radio silent for the better part of 2 months as of time of this writing (Oct 21st).

People are constantly posting in the discord server if the project is dead. They are asking if it was a rug-pull. They are kind of pissed and wanting updates. And honestly I can't blame people for wanting updates from the team where they invested 0.049ETH (roughly $131 USD) into a NFT or maybe even more. I have two NFT's. And based on what I paid I am roughly 0.1 ETH or $268 USD invested into Polyverse.

Opinion time:

Do I think it is a rug-pull? Short version = no

Do I think the project is dead? Short version = no

Do I think that the Polyverse teams dropped the ball is such a huge way by not communicating? Yes

Do I think the Polyverse team has a lot to do to start to earn back trust? Yes

Can they do it? Of course. If they come back with a banger update and show us all they have been working on and start promoting the game and getting more interest everything will be forgotten because until Oct 26th, they have not lied or misled us one bit. They stated they needed 90 days and so I am giving them 90 days with my trust in them. If it goes 91 days without an update will I immediately think its dead and I lost my investment? No, I won't but I will start to get more skeptical for sure.

Guys look. Crypto is like the Wild West. The thing we love about it is that it's decentralized and it is a Wild West. However if you are investing money/fiat/crypto into a project you should only do so with as much as you are willing to lose. And that is what I did. If Polyverse is dead and I am out of my 0.1 ETH, then I will be bummed for sure. Will I hate the Polyverse team? No. Its the internet and they are strangers and I trusted strangers with my money with the chance of getting to play a game and getting a head start on other people. THAT is the cost of early investment into a project. Not everyone pans out.

And besides, I met some cool people from the discord server. Brix and Artur I am looking at you guys! ;)
