Polyverse - Alpha Tips & Tricks From A Seasoned Veteran

By TrocProcLock | Polyverse | 30 Jan 2025

Alright everyone this post is designed JUST for those of you who are actively playing in the Alpha of Polyverse. I was apart of the game since the Genesis Drop and played the pre alpha and there are some tips and tricks to know for anyone knew to the Alpha game or coming back after months and need a refresher.

Disclaimer Time: This game is still in Alpha. That means the graphics may look like dog-crap at times. That means the overall UI is nowhere near done. That means a lot may change when the Beta gets released. Actually the Devs have already stated that a lot will change in Beta because all of the feedback we gave during the pre-alpha testing is not being updated to the alpha, only the Beta.

Lesson #1: Little guys can push big guys

Something to keep in mind here is that when you are running away for your dear life in the game, be sure to keep an eye on WHAT enemies are you running away from. The little dog looking guys are faster than the big brutes. If the little guys are behind big guys they can actually push them and make the big guys run towards you faster.

So keep your eyes peeled and run in directions to avoid this if possible.

Lesson #2: You can walk in places you don't think you can

This took me a few game to realize, but even though there is items on the floor that look like you can't walk/run over them.... you probably can. Spend the first game or two running around the edge to see where you can and cannot walk. You don't want to be running for your life on your best run and get stuck in a corner and not be able to move and get shot and die.

Here can you see my little Ape guy running over wire debris type stuff.

Lesson #3: Don't waste your resources on crap gear

I know this sounds like obvious advice but let me tell you something... All weapons suck in this alpha version except the Legendary weapons. These stats are going to change in the Beta but for now... learn from those who came before you. I would not craft any weapon that is NOT a Legendary or at least an Epic.
Here is my Chronos. It is a shotgun and generally accepted to be the best gun in the Alpha:

Here is Hermes and Athena. They are both Epic rarities and really good because of their long range (the shotgun has a range of 7 and these are 20+).

You will get Blueprints and resources after successful waves and think "oh wow I got a Blueprint, let's go craft this bad boy and destroy these alien enemies with my new cool super powerful gun"

Don't think that. Unless that gun is one of the three I listed.. save your resources for when you get a Blueprint for them.

Lesson #4: Kill the Ranged enemies first

Look these guys suck. They stand back and shoot range weapons at you. The Dogs and Brutes are both Melee attackers. The range guys show a purple line out of their gun and it will show you where they are going to shoot and they have a LONG range.

In these screenshot you can kind of see the "Purple" thin line out from the ranged enemy pointing down to the left

RIGHT before they shoot there is like a 1/3 of a second pause from them moving so be sure to always be moving on a GOOD angle from these guys. Or better yet... just kill them first.

Lesson #5: The Ranged Enemies can NOT shoot through the middle Pillar

If you can't kill the ranged guys right away then use that middle pillar to your advantage and be DIRECTLY behind the pillar to where the ranged guys are. They will try to shoot through the Pillar but can't hit you. But be careful that they can walk around it if the angles are not the best.

Lesson #6: SHIFT = RUN

Hold the shift key to run faster. But something to keep in mind, it likes to freeze a bit when you reload while running you may stop running and you gotta release the shift key and press it again to run again.

Lesson #7: Reload to run faster

Little known fact but when you are performing the reloading animation you run faster. Even if you are NOT out of ammo but you need to run away fast from a bunch of enemies, just reload and get away to fight another day.

Lesson #8: Do not use Melee anything

The Dogs and Brutes attack with melee, and their melee range is a lot bigger then your melee range. So don't let them melee you and don't try to melee them. You won't win so don't try. (I know you are going to try anyways so come back here and tell me I was right when you die so quick using Melee)

Lesson #9: Check your Settings

If you are lagging a lot, then check your settings. Pick a server that is closer to you, there is 4 to pick from.

Also the Graphics has a Performance or High option to pick from.

And there is a Quality slider to change.

So make adjustments so your game runs at top notch. To add to this, if your game is running a little slower or lagging there is still 1 more thing you can try. Have Polyverse open in a tab in its own window. Then reduce the size of that window to be about 6 physical inches by 6 physical inches. It may look stupid but with graphics settings turned all the way down and the physical size of the browser windows greatly reduced it should help even more.

That is all the Alpha tips and tricks I have at this time. Stay tuned for my articles and content from Polyverse!
