Another week, another chance to share a battle and my opinion on a specific unit in Splinterlands with you! It is Venari Spellsmith, this week! To be honest this is another unit where I have to look for reasons to employ this unit. But when your options are limited you sometimes do not need pros for using a unit. In those cases it is sufficient enough that there is no better choice! ;)
As in the past my focus is on Silver league in particular. You encounter unleveled bcx1 monsters in this league for the most part.

So what is this talk of mine about "not having a better choice" about?
From my perspective:
-Best feature of this card is being a neutral card with magic attack.
-Second best feature: It is a widely available card, costing you at the time of writing less than $0.70. Compared to its peer (Elven mystic for more than $4.00 at the time of writing) this is really reasonable.
-Its cost of 4 mana for playing is not good, but still reasonable.
-It has an ability which sometimes comes in handy.
So again Venari Spellsmith's main selling point to me is that it is a versatile unit that offers you a magic attack. Especially when your deck does not offer you too much options to choose from the Venari Spellsmith might offer you a viable option. Just think of a sitatuaion where you are looking for cheap magic attack monsters. Let us assume you cannot play Earth Splinter (which has a lot of magic attack monsters to choose from) and your cards come mainly from the last two editions (Chaos Legion and Dice). Your mana is somehow limited, as well. So which unit might be an excellent addition just because it is rather easy available? -YES, Venari Spellsmith!
This is a situation I encountered in the battle I want to share with you: https://m.splinterlands.io/#/battle/game/process/sl_93ea7b28f1bef0a5aee5730fbfe365d9
Hard facts: 30 points mana cap, no specific ruleset, Wild format.
For some reason I rented me a cheap Alric summoner for Water splinter which I wanted to combine with as many magic attack monsters as possible. I went with my setup of putting an expendable unit in front of my "main tank" Oshannus. When I saw opponents setup I was not sure if I would win - the Mustang along with the Goblin Psychic is more often than not a clear loss for me when I decide to play a magic deck, myself.
However putting a lot of mana with his Mycelic in second row proved more a flaw than a wise decision, because the Goblin Psychic would not heal it. In consequence all my attacks were combined and guided on a single target.
The Mustang only managed to take down my "Expendable", before it was taken down itself. Captain's Ghost's ability along with enough magic fire power (remember I wanted to go for cheap magic attack monsters!) which was enhanced by Alric made this a safe win for me.
Just for docu: Oshannus was finally taken down, as well. But victory was not in danger, anymore!
As lined out in the beginning: Venari Spellsmith was a reasonable and useful choice for me in this setup. And I am sure there will be situations where it could be your "next best choice", as well!
You read this post to its end, but you haven't heard about Splinterlands at all, still you are eager to support my quest for the Legendary Gold Foil card. -You are free and very welcome to use my sign-up link: https://splinterlands.com?ref=jdike
