It is another week full of challenges and grinding!
Splinterlands became part of my life a while ago and so did writing in share-your-battle challenges about it.
This week it is about Mycelic Slipspawn, I am fine with it. Because I think this can be a very worthy unit. Although this unit is a pretty straight-forward unit, more than often I see mistakes in using this unit. So let us have a closer look at this unit's handling!
But first things first my focus of report is on Silver league in particular. Here you encounter unleveled bcx1 monsters, for the most part.
What are Slipspawn's advantages?
-2 magic damage! Simple and plain this has some potential on its own. If you combine it with Earth splinter's standard summoner Obsidian you can get even more damage.
-Target ability which guides opponent's damage right into the Slipspawn's direction and helps you to protect your low health monsters.
-10 health! Along with the target ability Slipspawn makes up for a very good tank.
-Synergies! (1) Combine Slipspawn with Earth Splinter's basic summoner Obsidian you get 3 magic damage which is really good. (2) Combine Slipspawn with Goblin Psychic and you finally have enough health that is worth healing.
Then there is his high mana cost and low initiative, but after all you cannot have it all, can't you?!

and spotlight on the proper handling I mentioned earlier.
One of the main mistakes I see when dealing with the Slipspawn is a mistake I am doing myself more often than it is good for me. Don't get me wrong it CAN be wise, but much more often it is NOT wise to put Slipspawn in second row!
Obviously this is not my most intelligent setup ever, neither! ;)
(Initiative kills!) Added that my opponent played rather high initiative monsters, my Slipspawn sayed goodbye and left the field before all my combining could show any effect.
So it was now my setup without Slipspawn vs. the opponents damage dealers. Lucky my monsters took down all the opponent's tanks.
So here, at the latest, it should be clear who won the match...
As it has been said before I tried to combine all aforementioned boni for the Slipspawn (Obsidian, Goblin Psychic) and would have liked to show you why not to put your Mycelic Slipspawn in second position. -Ironic, that would have been a better choice in this match :D
So let us assume there would have been a different reality: Slipspawn would have survived Round 1 until monsters with Initiative 1 can activate.
-What would happen at Initiative 2? Slipspawn would have fired with 3 Magic Damage and knock out Windeku.
-At Initiative 1: Goblin Psychic would hopefully activate before opponent's Disintegrator and heal my first line tank.
Then what is my point in insisting not to put Slipspawn in second row? If you put Slipspawn in second row its ability would attract "only" 9 points of damage in this match (all ranged + sneak monsters) and survive round 1. BUT the thought of combining it with Goblin Psychic would just not work, because Goblin Psychic only has "Tank heal" which only triggers for the monster in your first line.
