A new week means more share-your-battle challenges in Splinterlands for me!
This week it is about a Fire Splinter unit: Djinn Apprentice. So far I would call it a "decent" monster. It has some strengths, but i is not your universal answer to any given problem! But let us start step by step.
Just as always: Most of my thoughts are somewhat limited to observations in Silver league in particular. Here you encounter for the most part unleveled monsters.

What can I say about the Djinn Apprentice?
-Good: 2 magic damage, this is really a good thing to me and its main strength to me, as well.
-Okayish: 4 Health and 2 Initiative. Both not really worth mentioning...
-Okayish, too: Cost of 5 Mana to play.
What might make you reconsider?
-Fire Splinter. There is no really available standard summoner that could boost this Djinn in Fire Splinter. (Tarsa is about strength and health, Pyre is about initiative)
-Not easy to combine. Neither there are Fire units which would cry out "combine me with units like these".
-Just decent. If not part of your overall strategy this is probably not the kind of unit that would happen to be included in your lineup because it is not a strong solitary unit, neither.
Still I think there are reasons beyond the pure printed stats to play this unit!
Let us look at this battle of mine:

Special rules here: Modern Format, Mana Cap 42, Healed Out and Broken Arrows rule sets apply.

My opponent went with Kelya and a Water Splinter setup with emphasis on melee damage while countering melee damage, as well. Usually this is a real nuisance for Fire Splinter setups. I myself went with a combination of melee damage dealers and some magic damage support (Djinn Apprentice et aliud).

My magic damage support was rather successful even in round 1. You can see here: While my melee damage units were not able to bypass Diemonsharks shield stat, my magic damage units nearly took Diemonshark off the field, already.

In round 2 the "magical duo" took Diemonshark finally off the field and took aim on the next high health unit.

So in round 4 it is finally just my magical units versus the most of the enemy's units from the starting setup.

But my units stood their ground...

...until there was only a single Tenyii Striker versus a Disintegrator. Thanks to the magic monsters attack the Tenyii Striker was quite intact and took the Disintegrator down and secured victory!

I think this fight is a good example for a possible usecase of the Djinn Apprentice in anyone's deck. Although the Djinn will never be a great unit and does not profit much from Fire Splinter's summoners' abilities there are reasons to use him. These reasons are most likely connected to his 2 magic attack which is something not many other monsters in Fire Splinter offer to players.
And as you should have seen before the magic attack REALLY helps you to bypass your opponent's (Water Splinter's!!) shield stat and aim straight at your opponent's monsters' health stats.
Hope you got this thought of mine and we read each other, next week! ;)
