Another week! Although I have been on a short vacational trip, I do not want to miss the chance of talking with you about the Regal Peryton!
Again I think this is a card worth looking at! For a lot of my adventures in silver league this card is a bit (about 1 mana) too expensive, but still I see its potential! ;)
Times are changing, but currently most of my battles take place in silver league where I enocunter unleveled 1 bcx monster, for the most part! Spoiler: Not in this week! :D

Going right to look at Regal Peryton's stats. What do I think?
-First (+): 5 initiative which is very fast, even more for Earth splinter!
-Second (+): 6 base health. Due to Earth splinter's Obsidian you see a lot of Earth's magic-attack-1 monsters spamming the battles. Most of them have barely any health though. In fact Regal Peryton's health is so high that I consider him in some of my Earth setups with Obsidian as my main tank.
-Third (+): Flying ability. There are not too many Earth units offering this ability at level 1, already. So Regal should be your choice in Earthquake rulesets. Furthermore Flying adds up to the high initiative which could well lead your enemy's attack into a miss!
Fourth (+): Magic attack! Another Earth unit to be compared with Obsidian summoner for an additional attack boost!
Fifth (-): Cost of 5 mana. This is actually not too much, but unfortunately neither meat nor fish. Often it is 1-2 mana too expensive for low mana matches and 2-3 mana too cheap for high mana matches. Then 5 mana prohibits Regal Peryton from participating in Small League ruleset. So I think 5 is an unfortunate cost for this monster.
So the overall result should be clear, not? -I think so, but it comes with a big BUT. Although the mana cost should not be a big thing and it is not like it is overpriced for what Regal Peryton offers... it just somehow limits its usecases. As has been elaborated on above you probably can use it only in mid-mana-matches.
Here is how I used Regal Peryton once:

Key facts: Modern format. 18mana cap. Additional rulestes: Equalizer, Fog of war.

In fact my opponent and I had very similar thoughts on these rulesets. ;)
Perhaps I employed more "Legendary power" while my opponent went with a little bit cheaper setup, but focussed more on melee.

Actually my Queen Mycella forced my opponent to hit more often while my magic attack focus went straight to the enemy's monsters' health.

In consequence my casualties lagged a bit behind and the enemy always lost his next unit earlier!

And here, at the latest, it should be clear who won the match!

But I will not let you miss the showdown: Regal Peryton gold (though limited to level 1 due to my summoner) vs. Regal Peryton level 2. ;)

So if you leave out the showdown above what purpose did it serve to show you this battle?
-To me it emphasizes the importance and outstanding feature of Regal Peryton for Earth Splinter: High health compared with magic attack!
Again: Magic attack makes Regal Peryton worth combining with Obsidian. But its high health is a feature you do not encounter that often in combination. If it was not for the opponent's Hill Giant unit in the battle shown above the Regal Peryton would have been the unit with the highest health and thus copying its health with all the other units!
