Did I overestimate? - evaluating my reasons to play Dhampir Stalker in Splinterlands

It has been some days since I published my last post, but the more fun it is for me to write again about Splinterlands!
This week's share-your-battle-challenge is about Death Splinter's Dhampir Stalker. My first thoughts on this unit are that it is a good unit, but that I might very well overestimate it.

My thoughts are still about bcx1, unleveled monsters. Times are changing and in Silver League I start to regularly encounter stronger and more leveled units than in the past.

First let's take a closer look on my thoughts on the Dhampir's stats:
-First thought (+): Ranged attack of three! That is a really decent attack.
-Second (+): It has a nice ability which helps to ease one of melee's/ranged's big point points. Dhampir Stalker cannot miss!
-Third (+): Five health which is not too bad for a backrow unit! The Dhampir can take one or two hits, for sure.
-Fourth (the BIG -): Unit cost of 7 mana. It offers a lot, but this unit takes its toll in regard of mana price.

So if you follow my musings we got 3 plus-points and only 1 negative point. So again my rating should be positive, not?

Here is one of my recent battles:

Key facts: 22 mana cap, Modern Format, Rulesets: Armored up

My opponent went with a mixed lineup. I did, as well. He had clearly more firepower while I had a little bit more health. Both of us targeted the enemy's backline, as well.

The first real action happened in round 3. Within only 3 activations both of our tanks went down. All in all the loss of the main tank was worse for my opponent than it was for me.
My Silent Sha'Vi had still an armor bonus, BUT the Goblin Psychic would bypass this stat and the other Goblin still looked very healthy.

Still the Dhampir Stalker's uneven attack of 3 made the difference and I was able to take the Goblin Psychic off the field in round 4.

But it was still a ride on a razor's edge because if my Silent Sha'Vi would fall my Dhampir Stalker would have become useless, caused by his ranged attack. Luckily Silent was silent enough not to be hit.

This takes me to my personal point of reevaluation of the unit Dhampir Stalker. Its ranged attack combined with its cost of 7 mana is really a big con for its use. -Because you always need a second unit that gives a ranged unit cover for firing.
And spending 7 mana for a unit that will not fire is clearly a disaster and a negative turning point for any battle.
In fact I really, really had a hard time winning a battle including the Dhampir Stalker prior to writing this article!
