I invested in Electroneum (ETN) at the ICO (Initial Coin Offering) stage and have since purchased some more to build up my holding a little bit.
I held the coins in the Electroneum online wallet and still have them there. However had I moved them and sold them I could have made money and bought back some more at a bargain.
At ICO the coins cost 1 cent and I got a discount of 20% for buying early - shortly after going on the market they exceeded 15 cents so you could have made over 15 times you initial investment but this was on a very small exchange called Cryptopia which has since went into Administration. Even after a few months the coin was still around 6-7 cents on Kucoin so I could have sold then at a good profit but didnt. This is a lesson I have learnt for the future as the coin is currently worth around 0.4 cents (currently at a 50% loss even taking discount into account).
This coin was created to use as digital money and to incentivise people to get on board they created a simulated mining app which is also an online wallet which gives a small amount of ETN each month free (it started around 100 ETN per week but is currently less than 100 per month as numbers of active miners increases - it is currently around 225,000 Android miners and I dont know how many IOS miners).
Even these numbers show the interest in the project and it is targeted at economies where people dont always have a Bank account e.g. Africa, Asia, South America.
I believe this project will succeed for the following reasons:
(1) More people have phones than Bank accounts (especially in their target market).
(2) They are giving people in the target markets a reason to get on board via simulated mining to get free crypto. This may be a small amount but it is worth more to people in these countries and they have set up a way to use it to top up phones in many of these countries (currently Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil, Turkey, Tanzania and Uganda with many more to be announced shortly).
(3) They have an instant payment function in the online wallet which allows instant payments via barcode scanning.
(4) They are currently setting up an eco system to allow payment via the Gig economy so there will be other ways to use the digital money.
(5) They have some big deals ready to announce including a National Bank (probably in one of these countries).
(6) Big mobile operators are bound to get involved as this grows as it gives much greater exposure to these potentially huge markets in growing economies. People with no bank account can use their phone to top-up.
(7) The numbers ETN are talking about reaching are enormous so it will be easy for them to make money charging minimal amounts.
(8) They have introduced a new concept "Proof of Responsibility" to power their blockchain helping NGO's non government organisations to earn some free crypto and their are now NGO's waiting to join this scheme.
