The world is getting fatter

The world is getting fatter, particularly in Western nations. As life gets easier, and incomes on average, increase, people are exercising less, eating more and eating in general, poor quality food. With services such as Uber, Uber Eats, people no longer even have to get off the couch to get some food, or what is defined as food anyhow.

Walk around any city, and you will see many, many drivers for Uber Eats, Deliveroo and the like delivering McDonalds, KFC and Hungry Jacks to those who quite possibly do not need it. I am yet to see an Uber Eats driver deliver apples and water to someone!

Take for example, Australia. Obesity rates are rising rapidly, convenience services are on the rise. There is even one called Sherpa that delivers alcohol to your door! This article outlines how silly it is becoming, with a country town in NSW getting a fourth, yes a fourth McDonalds!

It also seems to be the case, that the price of fruit and vegetables is going up, whilst the cost of McDonalds and other fast foods is in some cases getting cheaper. However, all of this food is full of fat, sugar and basically ingredients that have no nutritional value at all.

And yet people love this stuff! However, are they aware of what it does to your health? It has been shown that obesity causes large increases in the risk for heart disease, strokes, cancer and it also reduces life expectancy. It has also been shown to have negative effects on your mental health.

Governments around the world are trying to improve food quality, through a range of programs, both education, prevention programs, school programs as well as legislation if required.  Many governments have even developed websites to help people make informed decisions about their health and food choices.

What do you do eat healthily and to take care of yourself? What are the best ways to do so? Exercise? Stretching, drink plenty of water? Eat fruit? Eat plenty of vegetables? Let me know in the comments :)
